In a press statement issued by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, the government described the move as part of "routine governance and oversight procedures" aimed at strengthening institutional performance, accountability, and service delivery in the energy sector.

According to the statement signed by Minister Hon. Can. Dr. Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu, the sweeping changes will allow for a comprehensive review of the company’s management and operations.

To ensure uninterrupted service delivery, shareholders have appointed an Interim Board Chairperson, and the Board has subsequently named an Acting Managing Director to oversee operations during the transition. The interim arrangements will remain in place until the vacant positions are filled substantively.

The Ministry assured the public that electricity supply and distribution services will continue uninterrupted throughout this period.

"We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders as Government works to strengthen governance and operational effectiveness at UEDCL," the statement read.
