Police have confirmed that businessman and rally driver Rajiv Ruparelia died in a car accident at the Busabala Flyover traffic lights in Makindye-Ssabagabo, Wakiso District.
According to Traffic Police spokesperson SP Michael Kananura, the crash occurred when Ruparelia’s Nissan GTR (Registration UAT 638L) hit temporary pavements installed at the flyover’s roundabout, causing him to lose control before the vehicle overturned and caught fire.

“The accident happened as Mr. Ruparelia was driving from Kajjansi towards Munyonyo. The car overturned and burst into flames, leading to his instant death,” SP Kananura stated. “The exact cause is still under investigation, and we will share further details as they emerge.”
Rajiv Ruparelia, son of prominent Ugandan tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia, was the Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group—a leading East African conglomerate with investments in banking, insurance, education, media, real estate, hospitality, and floriculture.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through Uganda’s business and motorsport communities. More updates will follow as authorities continue their investigations.
