Today marks the conclusion of a 20-year journey that @UmemeLtd has walked with the people of Uganda in powering homes, businesses, and industries. It has been a period of growth, transformation, and innovation in the energy sector.
Since the start of UMEMEβs concession in 2005, significant contributions to Ugandaβs electricity distribution sector have been made, including:
β
Expanding electricity access from less than 5% to over 25% of the population.
β
Reducing energy losses from 38% to below 15%.
β
Investing over USD 800 million in infrastructure to improve the reliability of power supply.
β
Supporting Ugandaβs economic growth through industrial and commercial connections.
UMEME worked closely with @GovUganda, @ERA_Uganda, @UEDCLTD to ensure a seamless transition for all stakeholders.
β
Customers will continue to access power without disruption
β
Yaka services remain unchanged.
β
The grid infrastructure remains intact for continued investment and reliability.
I take this moment to extend my heartfelt appreciation to:
β
The Government of Uganda for its partnership and collaboration over the years
β
Our customers for trusting UMEME to light up their homes and businesses
β
Our dedicated staff whose hard work and commitment have driven the companyβs achievements
β
Our shareholders and investors for their unwavering confidence in UMEME.
To @UEDCLTD, we hand over the baton with best wishes for continued progress and success. May Ugandaβs power sector grow stronger, more efficient, and more inclusive for all.
