In a significant move, Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa has officially expressed interest in running for Member of Parliament for Ruhinda North Constituency. Today, at midday, he picked up nomination forms from the NRM Electoral Commission headquarters at Kyadondo.

According to Tayebwa, leadership is about connecting with the people, listening to their concerns, and representing their voices on national and global platforms. "To me, leadership means going down to the communities, listening to the people, and bringing their voices to national and global platforms wherever I have the opportunity to represent them," he emphasized.

Tayebwa also highlighted the importance of working closely with communities and mobilizing them for the collective good. He expressed his enthusiasm to continue serving his constituents and the country, leveraging his position as Deputy Speaker.

The Deputy Speaker commended the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, for the efficient electoral process put in place. "I thank the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, for the seamless electoral process they have put in place," he said, pledging to adhere to party electoral guidelines.

Notably, Tayebwa's decision to run comes amid a show of support from the public, with many turning up to witness the nomination process. "He thanked all those that have turned up in big numbers to pick nomination forms, expressing big love people have for the NRM party," it was observed.

Tayebwa also reaffirmed his commitment to the Deputy Speaker position, should he be voted back in, as per the agreement with the current

Speaker, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among. Furthermore, he expressed confidence in President Museveni's re-election bid, citing the leader's popularity and potential to lead the country effectively in the next term (2026-2031). "We believe in President Museveni; very sure he will win back the incoming election to lead us well in the next term," he stated.

The stage is set for what promises to be a closely contested electoral process, with Tayebwa's experience and commitment likely to play a significant role.
