The M23 armed group and Rwandan forces wasted no time breaking their own so-called “ceasefire”, launching a fresh offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) just a day after claiming they’d stop fighting.

At dawn, heavy clashes erupted as M23 and Rwandan troops seized Nyabibwe, a mining town 100 km from Bukavu.

 

 

This comes days after their blitz takeover of Goma, the main city in North Kivu.

DRC government spokesman Patrick Muyaya:

 

 

 

"This is proof that the unilateral ceasefire that has been declared was, as usual, a ploy.”
