Mzee Usher Wilson Owere, a former leader in the National Organization of Trade Unions (NOTU), is under investigation for allegedly defrauding Ugandan returnees from Iraq and Afghanistan out of millions of shillings.

Reports indicate that Owere assured these returnees he could connect them with President Yoweri Museveni to address their grievances regarding unpaid wages and other issues they faced during their service abroad.

Owere reportedly held meetings with various groups of returnees, promising them access to the President and stating that he would facilitate meetings with prominent American lawyers to resolve their claims. He claimed that by paying him a fee and undergoing a screening process, they would gain access to high-level discussions that could lead to compensation for their hardships.

In a disturbing turn of events, Owere, alongside his associate lawyer pastor Jephason, solicited approximately $1,000 from each returnee. However, the leaders of these groups quickly intervened, halting any further contact with Owere and his legal team after realizing the dubious nature of his promises.

One year later, Owere has been spotted moving between various offices accompanied by a group of young individuals he claims are migrant workers.

He continues to make similar assurances about helping them navigate migration challenges and welfare issues.

Sources close to the investigation suggest that since losing his position at NOTU, Owere's behavior has become increasingly erratic, with reports indicating he has turned to gambling as a means of income. This shift has raised concerns about his mental state and the potential risks to his legacy.

Authorities are taking these allegations seriously, and it is believed that Owere's actions may have far-reaching implications for both the returnees and the broader community.
