Bamunanika, Luweero District – The Minister of State for Higher Education, Hon. Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo, has called on parents to prioritize educating their children while also raising them with strong religious values.
Dr. Muyingo made the remarks today at the home of the parents of Rev. Fr. Bruno Serunkuuma, who was recently consecrated. The event was held in Bamunanika, Luweero District, and attracted several religious leaders, parents, and Christians.
In his message, the Minister congratulated Rev. Fr. Serunkuuma upon his milestone and encouraged parents to raise God-fearing children, while ensuring they receive both formal education and cultural grounding.
“As parents, it is our duty to educate our children and to raise them with discipline, cultural values, and fear of God. We should also guide them during this holiday to stay safe, learn our language, and grow up responsible,” Dr. Muyingo said.
He further appealed for unity and tolerance as the country heads toward the 2026 General Elections, urging Ugandans to practice mature politics based on mutual respect, even among those with differing views.
Religious Leaders Praise Muyingo’s Support
The thanksgiving mass was led by Rev. Fr. Mathius Jooga, head of Our Lady of Grace, Nandere TC, who encouraged Catholics to always put their hope in Jesus Christ during life’s challenges. He also thanked Dr. Muyingo for supporting Rev. Fr. Serunkuuma through his priestly formation.
Rev. Fr. Gerald Wamala, the leader of Mulajje Parish, applauded the Minister for consistently supporting the Catholic Church in nurturing and educating priests.
Meanwhile, the Vicar General of Kasana-Luweero Diocese, Msgr. Vincent De Paul Mukiibi, urged parents to take full responsibility in guiding their children at an early age, noting that well-nurtured children grow into responsible citizens. He equally commended Dr. Muyingo for his unwavering commitment to the education of Catholic priests.
Gift to Support Pastoral Work
As part of his support, Dr. Muyingo donated UGX 6 million to Rev. Fr. Serunkuuma to help him acquire a motorcycle for transport as he begins his priestly mission.
The event not only highlighted the importance of parental responsibility in shaping future generations but also reflected the strong partnership between the Church and the government in promoting education and moral values in society.
