Nabilatuk District, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has praised the remarkable transformation of the Karamoja sub-region, describing it as one of the National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s greatest success stories under the peace and development agenda.

Speaking during his visit to Lolachat, Nabilatuk District, alongside First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, the President commended the people and leaders of Karamoja for embracing peace and unity — values that have driven the region’s steady progress over the years.

“When we first came to this region, the population was about 190,000. Today, it has grown to over 1.5 million. That is the power of peace and continuous sensitisation,” President Museveni stated.

He emphasized that this transformation represents what the NRM stands for — rejecting division and confusion while focusing on peace, security, and development. The President added that the progress witnessed in Karamoja reflects the government’s long-term commitment to transforming Uganda through unity and stability.

“With continued support from the people of Karamoja, we shall protect these gains and do even more, especially in harnessing the region’s tourism and natural wealth for prosperity,” Museveni affirmed.

The colourful gathering, attended by thousands of enthusiastic supporters dressed in NRM’s signature yellow, showcased the party’s strong grassroots mobilization and the people’s appreciation for sustained peace and security.

As Uganda heads toward the next electoral season, the President’s message in Karamoja carried a broader national reminder — that peace remains the cornerstone for democracy, economic growth, and social harmony.

Museveni reiterated that Ugandans must guard the stability achieved over the years, ensuring that upcoming elections are conducted peacefully and reflect the NRM’s spirit of unity and progress.

The event concluded with renewed calls for continued collaboration between the government and the people to expand opportunities in education, tourism, and community development — solidifying Karamoja’s place as a model of transformation under the NRM’s leadership.
