The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has reaffirmed its political strength across the Greater Luweero Sub-region after registering a commanding victory in the concluded LC1 Chairperson elections, with voters overwhelmingly entrusting the ruling party with leadership at the village level.

The elections saw the NRM secure the majority of LC1 chairperson positions across several sub-counties and town councils, signaling continued public confidence in the party’s leadership and its development agenda.

In Wabitungulu Village, Zirobwe Sub-county, celebrations erupted after the official declaration of Oburu Tadeo (NRM) as the duly elected LC1 Chairperson. Oburu emerged victorious with 750 votes, defeating his closest rival Ssali of NUP, who garnered 213 votes. Residents welcomed the results with jubilation, describing the outcome as a vote of confidence in the NRM’s leadership and commitment to service delivery.

Across the sub-region, the NRM posted impressive results:

* Kamira Town Council
   * NRM – 24 LC1 Chairperson seats
   * NUP – 3
   * Independent – 1

* Kalagala Sub-county
   * NRM – 22
   * Independent – 6
   * NUP – 2
   * Elections in Degeya LC1 were postponed.
* Bamunanika Sub-county
   * NRM – 36
   * NUP – 12
   * Independent – 11

Reacting to the outcome, the Luweero Sub-region ONC Coordinator, Waswa Abdulkarim Tamale, congratulated all the successful candidates and expressed gratitude to the people of Luweero for once again placing their trust in the NRM.

Tamale described the results as a clear endorsement of the government’s continued efforts to improve the livelihoods of Ugandans through various development initiatives. He said the overwhelming support demonstrates that wananchi appreciate the progress made under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the NRM government.

He assured residents that the government remains committed to working with the newly elected LC1 leaders to enhance service delivery, strengthen local governance, and accelerate socio-economic transformation throughout the sub-region.

Tamale further urged all leaders, regardless of political affiliation, to prioritize unity and development over partisan interests. He called upon residents to work together, embrace peace, and actively participate in government wealth-creation programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), EMYOOGA, and other empowerment initiatives aimed at fighting poverty and creating sustainable household incomes.

He emphasized that the election period has ended and that it is now time for leaders and citizens to unite in building stronger communities, promoting accountability, and ensuring that government programs reach every eligible household.
