Kalagala, Luweero District – In line with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s directive for leaders to closely monitor government programs, the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) team for Luweero Sub-region has conducted a comprehensive monitoring drive in government-aided schools across Kalagala Subcounty, Bamunanika Constituency in Luweero District.
The activity, carried out in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and Sports, was led by Wasswa Abdulkarrim Tamale, the ONC Team Leader for Luweero Sub-region, who also doubles as Personal Assistant to the State Minister for Higher Education, Hon. Dr. John Chrysestom Muyingo.
Focus of the Monitoring Exercise
The visit aimed at assessing the state of infrastructure, teacher attendance, learning conditions, and overall performance of rural schools. According to the ONC’s general overview report, most teachers were present and committed to their duties despite the ongoing nationwide industrial action by some educators. This, the team noted, reflects the dedication of teachers in Luweero to ensuring continuous learning for pupils.
However, the ONC team also observed several pressing challenges affecting rural schools. Many institutions lack adequate classroom buildings to accommodate the growing number of learners. In some schools, teachers share toilets with pupils, raising sanitation and privacy concerns. Additionally, many teachers travel long distances to report to work due to the absence of staff quarters, which affects punctuality and morale.
