President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has welcomed a group of converts from the National Unity Platform (NUP) who met him at Kololo, expressing gratitude for their decision to reform and abandon what he described as “misleading opposition politics.”

The President congratulated the former opposition members and ex-prisoners for realizing their mistakes, turning away from dangerous political mobilization, and choosing a path of reintegration into society. He assured them that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government will support their full reintegration and help them access opportunities that can transform their lives.

“These bad leaders in NUP and some sections of FDC misguide the youth into danger, resulting in unnecessary deaths. They really have nothing to offer,” President Museveni noted, warning the youth against following leaders who thrive on chaos instead of constructive engagement.

He revealed that he had listened to the memorandum presented by the converts, promising that government would study it carefully. The Head of State encouraged the group to focus on building better livelihoods through the government’s wealth creation initiatives and highlighted four priority sectors they can explore for growth: commercial agriculture, artisanship and industry, services, and ICT.

“I urge you to dedicate your energy to these productive areas. That is where real transformation and prosperity for you and your families lies,” the President emphasized.

The meeting at Kololo reflects the NRM’s ongoing effort to reconcile and reintegrate former opposition actors, particularly youth, who had been drawn into confrontations with security agencies in recent years.

By opening doors for forgiveness and reintegration, President Museveni underscored that government’s commitment is not only to maintain peace but also to give second chances to those willing to reform and contribute positively to the country’s development.
