The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Justice Aisha Naluzze, on Wednesday made an impromptu visit to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, uncovering a range of challenges affecting service delivery at the facility.

Among the issues identified were a non-functional CT scan machine that has been idle since June 2025, a digital X-ray unit with expired films, and severe congestion that has left some patients sleeping in tents or admitted under beds.

The IGG also noted complaints of patients being charged money but waiting for weeks without receiving treatment, as well as reports of fees ranging between Shs200,000 and Shs750,000 levied on patients seeking MRI, CT scan, and X-ray services, among other concerns.
