The Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, is currently representing H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the 30th Coronation Anniversary of His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV of Tooro Kingdom.

The colorful celebration is underway in Tooro, drawing cultural leaders, government officials, and dignitaries from across the country to honor three decades of Omukama Oyo’s reign—defined by unity, cultural preservation, and development.

Delivering President Museveni’s message, Speaker Among is exalting Omukama Oyo for his visionary leadership and his efforts in safeguarding Tooro’s rich heritage, while also reaffirming the President’s strong support for cultural institutions as key partners in Uganda’s peace and socio-economic transformation.

The President, through the Speaker, has praised Tooro Kingdom for complementing government programs in education, health, and youth empowerment, stressing that such collaboration ensures stability and shared growth.

About Tooro Kingdom

Founded in 1830 after breaking away from the larger Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, Tooro Kingdom is one of Uganda’s most influential traditional institutions. It is headquartered in Fort Portal City, often referred to as the “Tourism City of Uganda” due to its scenic beauty, crater lakes, and proximity to national parks like Rwenzori Mountains National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park.

His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV ascended the throne in 1995 at the age of just 3 years, making him one of the world’s youngest reigning monarchs. Over the last 30 years, he has championed education, youth empowerment, and cultural preservation, positioning Tooro as a beacon of unity and tradition.

A Triple Spotlight

Today’s celebration is placing the spotlight on three pillars of Uganda’s heritage and leadership:

  • Omukama Oyo, honored for 30 years of cultural stewardship.
  • President Museveni, recognized for fostering harmony between the central government and cultural institutions.
  • Speaker Anita Among, celebrated for carrying the President’s message with dignity and reaffirming Parliament’s respect for Uganda’s kingdoms.

The anniversary is still ongoing, featuring traditional music, dance, prayers, and tributes to the Omukama’s legacy.
