Uganda Civil Aviation Authority Conducts Full-Scale Emergency Simulation Exercise at Entebbe International Airport
The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has launched a full-scale emergency simulation exercise at Entebbe International Airport to assess the airport's readiness and coordination capacity in handling emergencies. The exercise, which began at 1:09 pm on Friday, May 23, 2025, is in line with international best practices.

Purpose of the Exercise
The simulation exercise aims to test the airport's emergency response plans, procedures, and coordination abilities in the event of an aircraft accident or other emergencies. The exercise involves various stakeholders, including airport authorities, emergency responders, and other relevant agencies.

Public Alert
The UCAA has urged users of the facilities at Entebbe International Airport and members of the public not to be alarmed by the simulated smoke, fire, and emergency response activities in and around the airport. The exercise is designed to ensure that the airport is prepared to respond effectively in the event of a real emergency.

Importance of Emergency Simulation Exercises
Emergency simulation exercises are a crucial aspect of airport safety and security. They help to identify areas for improvement, test emergency response plans, and ensure that airport staff and emergency responders are prepared to respond effectively in emergency situations.

 Previous Exercises
The UCAA has conducted similar exercises in the past, including a partial emergency exercise in December 2020 and a full-scale exercise on November 4, 2022. These exercises demonstrate the authority's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of passengers and staff at Entebbe International Airport.

Quote from UCAA Spokesperson
"The exercise is a mandatory requirement for international airports and is designed to test our readiness and response capabilities in the event of an emergency," said Vianney M. Luggya, Spokesperson of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority.
