 In 2023, coffee exports reached over 6.5 million 60-kg bags, earning approximately $900 million, making Uganda Africa’s largest robusta exporter and a key player in specialty coffee markets.

 

 

 

Tea exports, valued at about $90 million annually, continue to grow, with demand rising in Europe and the Middle East due to improved quality standards. Maize, Uganda’s top grain export, accounted for $128 million in earnings in 2023, supported by robust regional demand from Kenya, South Sudan, and Rwanda. 

 

 

The rise in these exports is fueled by the establishment of trade hubs and value-addition facilities that enhance product quality and market readiness. For instance, coffee hubs provide advanced processing facilities, enabling farmers to fetch higher prices.

 

 

 

Additionally, storage and logistics improvements, particularly at the Kampala Industrial and Business Park, have reduced post-harvest losses
