Entebbe, Uganda –
In a remarkable stride for Uganda’s defence diplomacy, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, this afternoon hosted H.E. Mauro Massoni, the Italian Ambassador to Uganda, and Mr. Claudio Sabatino, Vice-President Africa of Leonardo Aircraft Division, at the Special Forces Command (SFC) Headquarters in Entebbe. Senior commanders of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) Air Force joined the high-level meeting to explore avenues for enhanced bilateral defence and security cooperation between Uganda and Italy.

The engagement underscores Uganda’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships, advancing its defence capabilities, and cementing its reputation as a regional pillar of peace and stability.
Uganda’s Defence Diplomacy on the Rise
Under the visionary leadership of Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the UPDF continues to modernise and professionalise, deepening cooperation with global partners such as Italy — one of Europe’s leaders in aerospace, defence, and technology. The discussions with Leonardo Group mark a new chapter in Uganda’s strategy to build capacity in aviation, maintenance, and defence innovation.

This partnership complements Uganda’s broader industrial and technological progress, including the establishment of an ultra-modern helicopter maintenance and overhaul facility at Nakasongola and the local production of Tornado 4x4 armoured vehicles, signalling self-reliance and innovation within the UPDF.
Saluting Uganda’s Leadership
“Under the guidance of H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Uganda continues to position itself as a centre of stability and partnership in Africa,”
said a senior UPDF official following the meeting.
CDF Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s leadership reflects this same vision — focused on professionalism, regional peacekeeping, and strong defence diplomacy. His continued engagement with international partners has elevated the UPDF’s global profile and deepened Uganda’s credibility as a trusted ally in peace and security efforts.

Government of Uganda: Building Bridges Across Continents
The Government of Uganda, through its Ministry of Defence and Foreign Affairs, continues to foster relationships that enhance both national security and international cooperation. The visit by the Italian delegation is a testament to Uganda’s effective diplomacy and growing global stature.
With every engagement, the UPDF not only enhances its operational capacity but also raises the Ugandan flag higher on the international stage, reflecting a nation that is strong, respected, and forward-looking.

Uganda Rising — Strong, Peaceful, and United
Today’s meeting at Entebbe reaffirms that Uganda’s strength lies in leadership, partnership, and patriotism. With a disciplined and visionary defence force, steady governance under President Museveni, and a dynamic CDF steering modernization, Uganda stands as a beacon of peace and progress in Africa.
