General Muhoozi Kainerugaba's account on X (formerly Twitter) has been deactivated again. The account, @mkainerugaba, became inaccessible around 9 PM local time on January 17, 2025, displaying the message: "This account doesn’t exist, try searching for another."
This recent deactivation follows a series of controversial posts by General Kainerugaba, including derogatory remarks about Members of Parliament and threats towards opposition figures. Earlier in the day, he referred to MPs as "clowns" and "fools," and issued threats against Dr. Kizza Besigye and Bobi Wine. In response, Parliament deferred a budget review meeting with the Ministry of Defence, demanding that General Kainerugaba appear before MPs to explain his conduct. He retorted on X, stating, "I will never appear before parliamentary clowns. Instead, I will arrest them all."
It's currently unclear whether the deactivation was initiated by General Kainerugaba himself or if it was an action taken by X due to potential policy violations, such as issuing violent threats. Notably, this is not the first time he has deactivated his account; he previously quit the platform in 2022, only to return days later.
General Kainerugaba had reactivated his account on January 16, 2025, just days after deactivating it on January 10, 2025, citing spiritual reasons and a desire to concentrate on the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF).
The situation has raised concerns among political figures and the public, given General Kainerugaba's influential position as the Chief of Defence Forces and his history of making contentious statements on social media.
