BREAKING NEWS: President Museveni Postpones Martyrs’ Day Celebrations

 Uganda has postponed this year’s Martyrs’ Day celebrations, President Yoweri Museveni has announced in a statement addressed to Ugandans, especially the “Bazzukulu.” According to the President, the decision was reached after consultations with the national epidemic response task force and religious leaders. “After consultations with the national epidemic response task force and religious leaders, we have decided to postpone the Martyrs’ Day to a later date, which will be communicated,” the statement read. The President urged pilgrims who had already started traveling to return home and continue observing all precautionary measures. He also encouraged the public to remain vigilant by reporting anyone who is sick and urging those who feel unwell to seek medical care immediately. “We regret any inconvenience caused, but the protection of life must come first,” President Museveni stated. Martyrs’ Day is one of Uganda’s largest annual religious events, drawing thousands of pilgrims from across East Africa and beyond to the Namugongo Martyrs Shrine every year. Government authorities are expected to communicate new dates for the celebrations in the coming days.

A Call for Reflection, Accountability, and Compassion: An Open Letter to President Museveni on the Anita Among Affair

 Dear Your Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,President of the Republic of Uganda,I write to you as a concerned citizen of Uganda, deeply mindful of the responsibility, sacrifice, and burden that come with leading our nation through both triumph and turmoil. At a time when the country had only just emerged from the celebrations surrounding your swearing-in ceremony and renewed mandate, many Ugandans now find themselves confronted by growing tension, division, and uncertainty arising from the ongoing controversy surrounding the former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among.  Your Excellency, public outrage against corruption and abuse of office is understandable and justified. The people of Uganda deserve transparency, accountability, and leadership that reflects integrity. However, as the nation debates these serious matters, I humbly appeal for wisdom, fairness, and compassion in how we approach both judgment and justice.  In moments such as these, emotions often overshadow reason. Social media platforms, public commentary, and political discourse can quickly transform allegations into permanent convictions before due process has run its course. While no leader should be above accountability, neither should any individual become the sole symbol upon whom an entire nation pours its anger, frustration, and disappointment.As believers and as human beings, we must remember the timeless wisdom found in Scripture: “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” This teaching reminds us not to excuse wrongdoing, but to balance justice with humanity. Uganda must remain a country governed by truth and lawful institutions rather than public humiliation and emotional condemnation. Your Excellency, many Ugandans recognize that corruption is not an isolated problem tied to one individual. It is a deeply rooted national challenge affecting numerous institutions and leaders across different levels of government. If genuine reform is to be achieved, then Uganda must move beyond selective accountability and establish transparent systems capable of addressing corruption comprehensively, fairly, and permanently. This moment therefore presents an opportunity for national introspection rather than political destruction. The country needs stronger systems, independent oversight, and a renewed culture of ethical leadership. We must build institutions that protect public resources while also protecting the dignity and rights of every citizen involved in investigations or accusations.At the same time, many Ugandans remain concerned by the growing perception of overlapping centers of authority and conflicting commands within government structures. Such uncertainty can weaken public confidence and create confusion about leadership, responsibility, and decision-making. I respectfully appeal to Your Excellency to continue providing clear direction to the nation regarding governance structures and institutional accountability. Your Excellency, leadership is not measured only by the ability to punish wrongdoing, but also by the wisdom to heal divisions, restore order, and guide a nation toward moral renewal. Breaking News! High Court Dismisses Nsubuga Mandela’s Case Challenging NRM Endorsement of Speaker, Deputy Speaker

 The High Court Civil Division in Kampala has dismissed a judicial review application filed by Nsubuga Jack alias Mandela challenging the National Resistance Movement (NRM) endorsement of Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among and Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa as the party’s flag bearers for Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 12th Parliament.  In a ruling delivered electronically on May 11, 2026, Justice Collins Acelam upheld preliminary objections raised by the respondents and found that the application was incompetent before court.The case, filed under Miscellaneous Cause No. 0083 of 2026, had named the NRM, Speaker Anita Among, and Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa as respondents.Nsubuga argued that the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) unlawfully endorsed Among and Tayebwa during a meeting held at State House Entebbe on January 29, 2026, without allowing wider participation from eligible members of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus.  He claimed the process violated constitutional principles of democracy, fairness, equality, political participation, and internal party democracy as provided under the Constitution of Uganda, the Political Parties and Organisations Act, and the NRM’s internal constitutional framework.The applicant further contended that the NRM had evolved into a mass political organisation following a nationwide digital membership registration exercise launched in 2024, requiring broader consultative and participatory leadership selection processes.  Nsubuga sought several remedies including orders of certiorari to quash the endorsement decision, prohibition against its implementation, mandamus compelling a fresh participatory process, general damages, and costs.However, the respondents opposed the application, arguing that the dispute concerned internal political party processes that were not properly amenable to judicial review.In the ruling, Justice Acelam agreed with the respondents and held that the applicant lacked sufficient legal standing to institute the proceedings in the manner presented.  The judge noted that although Nsubuga claimed to act on behalf of 72,000 elected NRM LC1 chairpersons, he had not obtained a representative order or demonstrated lawful authority to sue on their behalf as required under Order 1 Rule 8 of the Civil Procedure Rules.“The Applicant is neither shown to be a Member of Parliament within the said caucus nor a person demonstrated to have been eligible for consideration for the offices in question,” Justice Acelam ruled. The court also found that the applicant had failed to exhaust internal dispute resolution mechanisms within the NRM before seeking judicial review.Citing Rule 7A of the Judicature (Judicial Review) (Amendment) Rules, 2019, the judge emphasized that judicial review is a remedy of last resort and that political parties are entitled to resolve disputes through their established constitutional structures before courts intervene.“The mere assertion that complaints or petitions were made does not, without more, satisfy the legal requirement of exhaustion,” the ruling stated.Justice Acelam further observed that courts must exercise restraint in internal political party affairs unless there is clear evidence of illegality, irrationality, procedural impropriety, or constitutional violations after internal remedies have been exhausted.  The court noted that under Rule 9(3) of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus Rules of Procedure, the Central Executive Committee is empowered to consider names of interested members and recommend candidates for Speaker and Deputy Speaker.While acknowledging that political parties remain subject to constitutional scrutiny, the judge held that not every internal political disagreement automatically becomes a justiciable matter for judicial review.Consequently, the court dismissed the application. However, Justice Acelam declined to award costs against the applicant, noting that the matter raised important constitutional and governance questions concerning internal political democracy and judicial review of party processes.“Each party shall bear its own costs,” the judge ordered.

Yet despite the noise, propaganda, and smear campaigns, her political standing continues to grow stronger.  Observers note that since presiding over the passing of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill which attracted both local and international reactions,  Among became a prime target of foreign-funded pressure groups and NGOs that openly opposed the law. To many of her supporters, the hostility directed at her has less to do with governance failures and more to do with her firm stance on Uganda’s sovereignty, culture, and independence in decision-making.  Now, with the recent Sovereignty Bill further tightening scrutiny on foreign influence and NGO operations in Uganda, the political temperatures have once again risen. Critics and political activists, most allegedly funded by external interests, have intensified attacks against the Speaker ahead of the upcoming speakership race.Among’s supporters  say that the latest online campaigns are not organic political criticism but calculated attempts to tarnish her reputation at a critical moment.  They further claim that rival camps, have increasingly turned to influencers and social media propaganda instead of offering alternative legislative visions for the country.Despite these attacks, they say Anita Among enters the race with significant political advantages and an impressive record as Speaker of Parliament.Her loyalty to President Museveni and the first family , coupled with the love from members of Parliament make her stand out.  Since assuming  office , she has overseen some of the most active legislative sessions in recent parliamentary history.

Kanabar Mihir Nileshbhai Vanishes During Major Stock Audit as Uganda-Kenya Hunt Intensifies

 A major financial scandal involving missing company stock worth over UGX 200 million has triggered a growing cross-border manhunt after former store manager Kanabar Mihir Nileshbhai allegedly disappeared while under internal investigation in Uganda. The case, currently being handled by Kiira Police Division, stems from a complaint filed on 13th February 2026 by Keval R. Savjani, 37, an Indian national and Sales Manager at Sunsilk Ltd. According to company officials, Kanabar Mihir Nileshbhai had been working as a Store Manager with Sunsilk Ltd in Jinja since December 2020. Senior company officials allegedly warned the suspect multiple times after discovering that inventory records had not been properly maintained for more than two years. Company management says the situation escalated after significant stock shortages and financial irregularities were discovered during an extensive audit exercise.
