Tamale Mirundi Junior, son of the late and infamous political commentator Tamale Mirundi Senior, has been officially disowned by his clan. This announcement comes just a month after his father’s passing, and it follows a series of public incidents in which Mirundi Junior’s conduct towards the Buganda kingdom was deemed disrespectful.
The decision, made by clan elders, cited Mirundi Junior’s defiance and ongoing public attacks against the Buganda kingdom and its Katikkiro (prime minister) as the primary reasons for his disownment. His behavior, they said, had become too controversial to tolerate within the traditional framework of the clan.
Continuing the Family Legacy of Controversy
Tamale Mirundi Senior, who passed away in August, was no stranger to conflict, especially regarding the Buganda kingdom. Known for his fiery and unapologetic nature, Mirundi Senior often criticized various figures of authority, including the Katikkiro and the kingdom’s leadership. His strong opinions frequently caused tension between the Mirundi family and Buganda’s cultural and political elite.
Even after his passing, the shadow of Mirundi Senior’s controversies loomed large over his family. Some family members sought to restore peace by extending a formal apology to the kingdom, hoping to mend the strained relations. However, Tamale Mirundi Junior refused to participate, insisting that his father’s critiques were valid and did not require retraction. He further escalated the situation by doubling down on his father’s previous criticisms in public forums.
Clan Elders Take Action
The clan, in a last-ditch attempt to resolve the situation, called a meeting with Tamale Mirundi Junior to discuss his actions. According to reports, the meeting quickly turned tense as Mirundi Junior stood by his beliefs, rejecting any attempt to reconcile with the Buganda kingdom. In a now-viral video circulating across social media, he is seen at the gathering, where clan elders officially announce their decision to disown him from the family.
The video has sparked widespread debate, with many questioning whether the move by the clan was justified, while others applaud the elders for upholding their traditions and protecting their ties to Buganda. One elder is heard declaring that “his actions are not in line with the values we hold as a people, and we cannot continue to recognize him as a member of this family.”
