The Government of Uganda, under the leadership of the NRM administration, has once again demonstrated its continued commitment to strengthening the country’s human resource for health. More than 99,000 trainees in Nursing, Midwifery, and clinical health programs are sitting for their final examinations organized by the Uganda Health Professions Assessment Board (UHPAB), marking another milestone in the transformation of the education and health-training sectors.

Today ,the Minister of Higher Education, Hon. Dr. J.C. Muyingo, conducted an extensive tour of several health training institutions across Kampala to monitor the progress of the ongoing national examinations. He was joined by the Commissioner for Health Education and Director of Health Training Institutions, Hajjat Dr. Safinah Musene, UHPAB Executive Secretary Helen Mukakarisa Kataratambi, and other senior officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports.

Minister Muyingo began the visit at Butabika School of Psychiatric Nursing, where he interacted with candidates undertaking their practical examinations. The administration, led by Principal Harriet Kwagala, briefed the delegation on the successful implementation of the assessment process and the high level of preparedness exhibited by both instructors and students.

The inspection continued at Kibuli Muslim Hospital Health Training School, where the team was received by the hospital’s Director, Dr. El-Gazah, and Principal Hajjat Halimah Nanziri Mayanja. Over 600 candidates at the institution are sitting their final practical examinations. Dr. El-Gazah commended the Ministry of Education and Sports for its unwavering support, noting that the exam process has been executed smoothly and professionally.

She reported that 99,751 students registered for the end-of-year assessments—30,184 from clinical programs and 69,567 from Nursing and Midwifery—across 215 accredited examination centers in 233 training institutions.

Kataratambi expressed deep appreciation to the Government of Uganda and the First Lady, Mama Janet Kataaha Museveni, the Minister of Education and Sports, whose strong leadership and investment in the sector have ensured that national examinations are well-funded, well-coordinated, and aligned with modern training standards.
Commissioner Dr. Safinah Musene applauded the continued government support that has enabled institutions to access essential training materials and equipment, highlighting that this contributes directly to building a competent, service-oriented health workforce.

Speaking during the tour, Minister Muyingo reaffirmed the NRM government’s dedication to elevating the quality of medical and health-sciences training. He praised tutors and administrators for their hard work and underscored the Ministry’s commitment to producing highly skilled professionals capable of serving Uganda and the region.
He further commended UHPAB for its excellent coordination in managing one of the largest national examination exercises in the health sector.
