Yumbe, Uganda — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Thursday received a thunderous welcome in Yumbe District, where thousands of enthusiastic supporters and top National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders gathered for a massive campaign rally ahead of the 2026 general elections.
The President, who is also the NRM National Chairman, was welcomed by Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabanja, who had earlier arrived in the region accompanied by Hon. Atima Jackson, the MP for Arua Central Division and Government Regional Whip for West Nile. Hon. Atima personally hosted the Prime Minister at Arua Airfield before they proceeded to Yumbe, where preparations for the presidential rally were already in high gear.
The rally, held at Yumbe Secondary School playground, drew a huge crowd, with supporters waving NRM flags and chanting slogans in praise of President Museveni and the ruling party. The atmosphere was festive, marked by songs, dance, and displays of loyalty to the President’s continued leadership.
NRM heavyweights, including Members of Parliament, local council leaders, religious figures, and cultural chiefs, converged on Yumbe to demonstrate unity and reaffirm the region’s unwavering support for the NRM government.
Speaking at the event, President Museveni emphasized the government’s commitment to consolidating peace, expanding infrastructure, and creating more economic opportunities in West Nile and northern Uganda. He also commended the people of Yumbe for their steadfast support, promising that his next term would focus on deepening service delivery and empowering local communities through programs like PDM and Emyooga.
Hon. Atima Jackson’s visible role in coordinating the Prime Minister’s arrival and mobilizing regional leaders underscored his growing influence in West Nile politics. His efforts reflected the NRM’s renewed organizational strength across the region as the 2026 elections approach.
The President’s visit to Yumbe is seen as a strategic boost for the party’s grassroots mobilization, energizing supporters and reinforcing the message of continuity and stability.
As the sun set over Yumbe, chants of “Museveni Oyee!” filled the air — a clear signal that the NRM’s campaign machine is in full swing and the ruling party’s base in the West Nile sub-region remains as strong as ever.
