St Cyprian High School Kyabakadde delivered an impressive performance at the ongoing Mukono Zonal Basketball Championships currently taking place at Seeta University grounds in Mukono District, securing a strong 33–21 victory over St. Michael Sonde in one of the standout games of the opening day.

The team showed composure, tactical discipline, and attacking efficiency throughout the game, establishing control early and maintaining their lead to close out a convincing win. Head coach Omondi John praised his players for their determination and teamwork, describing the performance as a major boost for the school’s basketball program.

“This performance is great for the school. The players showed character, discipline, and a winning mentality,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of consistency as the tournament progresses.

The Mukono Zonal Championships have attracted strong participation, highlighting the continued growth of basketball in Uganda. The sport is governed nationally by FUBA, which has played a key role in expanding competitions at school and club level, increasing youth participation, and developing talent pathways.

Internationally, basketball is one of the most widely played sports, with an estimated 450 million players globally. The game is regulated by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), which oversees more than 200 national federations and drives global development programs. These frameworks continue to influence grassroots tournaments like the Mukono Zonal Championships, ensuring alignment with international standards.

While schools such as Seeta High School also posted strong results on the opening day, St Cyprian High School Kyabakadde stood out with a disciplined and confident display that positions them among the teams to watch.

With the tournament running for three days and set to conclude on Sunday, St Cyprian High School Kyabakadde will be aiming to maintain momentum and strengthen their push for the championship title.
