2 PEOPLE ARRESTED FOR DISTURBING THE PEACE OF DEAD MZUNGU IN KAKOOLA LUWEERO

 The Territorial Police in Luwero district are actively investigating a case of suspected murder and  disturbing the peace of the dead which occurred Yesterday Sunday the 9th February 2025 at approximately 0200/c at the above address and reported  this morning at around 0613/c.   Preliminary investigations indicates on 02/02/2025 Richard Hogoson a British national 78years old, married to a Ugandan lady Nakanwagi Regina died from New Mulago Hospital on 4th February 2025 and his body was buried in kakoola village. It is further alleged that on 9th Feb 2025, at around 0200/c the villagers heard some people digging the grave to remove the body and they organized themselves and arrested them.   Upon police receiving the information from the reporter they swiftly responded to the scene and documented, rescued the suspects but one of them Lutwama had been beaten badly and was rushed to Bamunanika H/c 3 for treatment where he was pronounced dead.   Two cases of suspected murder and disturbing the peace of the dead were registered, relevant statements were recorded from relevant witnesses, two suspects were arrested to help in investigations, the body was found intact though the coffin was exposed one side.More inquiries are ongoing.  1021 👁️ 👁️ views…

 The Executive Director of KCCA, Hajjati Sharifa Buzeki, officially handed over her former office as the Commissioner for Human Resource Management at the Ministry of Local Government to Mr. Kahandi Nelson.     During the event, she expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Local Government for the support, care, and love, which enabled her  to achieve several milestones.  "It is by God’s will that the city I now head mirrors the very things we experience here, and I would have missed something crucial if I hadn’t had the opportunity to serve in the Ministry of Local Government" she said.   Mr. Kahandi Nelson has been serving at the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs for three years. " I am stepping into big shoes, but I assure you I will live up to the task,  I will successfully carry on from where you have stopped,"he said.    The handover ceremony was officiated by A.g Permanent Secretary Hajji Sewante Khalifan. Hajji Sewante thanked  Hajjat Sharifa for her exemplary work, particularly for implementing the Balance Scorecard, which is now being used to assess the performance if civil servants.   He promised that the Ministry is going to continue implimenting the good policies introduced in human resource by Hajjat Sharifa.    In the same spirit, the Under Secretary warmly welcomed the new Commissioner,  emphasizing that the Ministry of Local Government is a supportive environment with members eager to collaborate and assist him in his new role.

 The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, has described His Highness Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV, the 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims and Founder and Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), who died yesterday, as a great philanthropist who immensely contributed to Uganda’s economic development.    Karim Al-Hussaini passed away last night in Lisbon, Portugal. Through business and philanthropy, he invested heavily in Uganda.    The Aga Khan’s businesses span multiple sectors, including media, which includes Daily Monitor, NTV, and KFM, and energy, such as the Bujagali Hydropower Plant. Other investments include healthcare, such as Aga Khan Hospital and clinics, education, including Aga Khan University, secondary, and primary schools, as well as banking, hospitality, insurance, real estate, and tourism, among others.  “He visited Uganda on multiple occasions,” Tayebwa said during the opening of Wednesday's plenary sitting.”He is employing thousands of Ugandans and contributing tremendously to our taxes and state coffers.”  Tayebwa further remarked, “he was a huge philanthropist who has supported very many Ugandans, and his foundation continues to support them."  Tayebwa revealed that he met Riaz Nathu, the current head of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in East Africa, who sent him a message last night, communicating the demise of Karim Al-Hussaini. “I felt extremely sad,” he said.  For his contribution to Uganda’s socio-economic development, Tayebwa said Aga Khan IV was “awarded the Most Excellent Order of the Pearl of Africa Medal by H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,” during the 55th Independence Day celebrations held in Bushenyi, Tayebwa noted.Prince Karim became the Aga Khan in 1957 at just 20 years old, following the passing of his grandfather, at a time before Uganda gained independence.   Under his leadership, he established strong businesses in Uganda and East Africa at large.Institutions of the Aga Khan Development Network have been present in Uganda for over 70 years. The total development investment in Uganda by AKDN-affiliated entities exceeds $1 billion. Ugandan Government Vows to combat Human and Drug trafficking during 2nd Annual Meeting

During the 2nd conference on combating human and drug trafficking, held on February 4, 2025, at the Office of the President Auditorium, Uganda’s senior officials and policymakers emphasized the urgent need to fortify the country’s laws and collaborative efforts to counter these growing challenges.Strengthening National Laws and PoliciesAmbassador Dr. Mohamed A. Kisuule, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Middle East Affairs and Chairman of the organizing committee for the conference, passionately called for the strengthening of Uganda's national laws and policies on narcotics and human trafficking. In his keynote address, Dr. Kisuule highlighted the importance of coordinating efforts with anti-corruption bodies to close gaps that traffickers might exploit.  "The government must prioritize the enhancement of our national laws and policies against narcotics and human trafficking. This includes collaborating closely with anti-corruption agencies to prevent traffickers from taking advantage of any weaknesses or corrupt elements within our systems," Dr. Kisuule emphasized.He also pointed out the need for targeted sensitization campaigns for Ugandans living abroad.      Dr. Kisuule suggested that these campaigns should be spearheaded by the Office of the President, particularly the Diaspora and Middle East Affairs department, in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This initiative would also involve selected Ugandan missions abroad, ensuring a comprehensive and united approach.In his speech, Dr. Kisuule extended gratitude to Haji Yunus Kakande, Secretary at the Office of the President, recognizing his instrumental role in the supervision, facilitation, and administrative guidance essential to the successful organization of the conference.A Universal Approach to a Universal Problem  Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, Minister of Internal Affairs, served as the chief guest and underscored the global nature of the trafficking crisis. "Drug trafficking is a universal problem, and it demands a universal solution," Otafiire stated. He urged parents and religious leaders to guide and support the youth in resisting involvement in human and drug trafficking. Reflecting on history, he remarked, “Human trafficking began with the slave trade. It is a centuries-old scourge that we must eradicate together.”   Maj. Gen. Otafiire also appealed to security agencies to adopt a rehabilitative approach toward the youth involved in these illegal activities. "Let us not merely punish our youth but rehabilitate them after arrest, for they are indeed the future of our nation," he advised.Protecting Ugandan Workers AbroadHon. Esther Anyakun Davinia, Minister of State for Gender, Labour, and Social Development, with a focus on Labour, Employment, and Industrial Relations, highlighted the government’s ongoing dialogue with the Saudi Arabian government. This dialogue seeks to provide insurance coverage for all Ugandan workers abroad who travel through legal channels.  "The government is in touch with the Saudi authorities to secure insurance for our workers abroad. This measure aims to combat the exploitation linked to human and drug trafficking," said Hon. Anyakun. The conference concluded with a strong commitment from all parties involved to bolster Uganda’s legal frameworks and international cooperation to tackle the twin menaces of human and drug trafficking. With continued dedication and strategic collaboration, Uganda aims to safeguard its citizens and its reputation on the global stage.

Respect and Obey To results from our election Management Committee Bobi wine Challenges 10 NUP Ticket competitors for Kawempe North

This afternoon, we addressed the public from our headquarters in Makerere-Kavule on several important issues.    Key among these is last week's Supreme Court decision that disbanded the military court martial and effectively ordered for the release of all political prisoners whose fate these kangaroo courts had sealed. We once again welcome this decision, and challenge the judiciary to continue on that path of justice.   We have also spoken out against the high cost of education and the huge financial burden that parents face while taking their children back to school. The Museveni regime should be ashamed of itself for having failed to provide quality and affordable education in the 40 years it has spent in power!  About the forthcoming Kawempe North by-elections, we have congratulated the ten members who have formally expressed their interest to represent the party as its candidate in this election. I have challenged them to respect the outcome of the Party's candidate selection process, which our Election Management Committee will handle with the necessary transparency and integrity. We have a duty to present only the most competent candidates for election. We shall do just that for the voters of Kawempe North.   The regime has done all it can to make us hate and give up on elections but we must never give them that satisfaction. Yes, we have faced several disappointments and setbacks, but we must never forget that we have every factor on our side. We have the people.    We have the age. We have the energy. We have the time. If we remain steadfast, the dictator will eventually have no choice but to fall no matter what he takes us through along the way.

BUSITEMA AND NDEJJE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS TO GAIN HANDS-ON EXPERIENCES IN NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH NARO

 The National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) today signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Ndejje University and Busitema University at its headquarters in Entebbe. These agreements aim to enhance cooperation in research, training, and resource sharing to support national development and promote high-quality agricultural innovations. The agreements, signed by Dr. Yona Baguma, the NARO Director General, alongside Prof. Olivia Nassaka Banja, Vice Chancellor of Ndejje University, and Rev. Can. Prof. Paul Waako, Vice Chancellor of Busitema University, are poised to strengthen Uganda’s research and training capacity in agriculture and related sciences.The MoUs seek to establish multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research cooperation, focusing on conducting basic, applied, strategic, and collaborative research with business opportunities.They also aim to promote high-quality training of scientists and human resources for sustainable development while enhancing the utilization of human, laboratory, and physical resources between NARO and the universities. To achieve these goals, the parties agreed to undertake joint activities, including research and innovation projects, training programs and student supervision, community outreach and technology transfer, and staff exchange programs to foster knowledge-sharing.Additionally, both agreements commit the institutions to developing joint research proposals and securing donor funding for shared programs, sharing research facilities, technical and scientific information, and library resources, holding joint seminars, workshops, and conferences to disseminate research findings, collaborating on intellectual property protection for jointly acquired innovations, identifying secure accommodation for visiting students and staff, and supporting industrial training programs at MSc and PhD levels.Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr. Yona Baguma emphasized the importance of these partnerships in advancing agricultural research and innovation. “These agreements will enable us to leverage our combined expertise and infrastructure to enhance research and training, which are critical for socio-economic transformation of Uganda. Collaboration with academia is vital in driving evidence-based policies and developing solutions that address real-world agricultural challenges,” he stated. He further noted that universities are knowledge generators while NARO is a technology generator, and these partnerships ensure that knowledge is transitioned into technology through availing students with opportunities for hands-on experiences. "When we come together, we deliver at scale, and society is the ultimate beneficiary of our works," he added.Prof. Nassaka and Prof. Waako expressed optimism that these partnerships would provide their students and researchers with greater exposure to cutting-edge agricultural technologies and practical learning experiences. Prof. Waako described the partnership as strategic, noting that Busitema University is one of the rapidly growing universities in the country.In attendance were the NARO Deputy Directors for Research Coordination and Agricultural Technology Promotion, Dr. Swidiq Mugerwa and Dr. Sadik Kassim, respectively. The Director Corporate Services, Dr. Kisaka Stevens, the Director Finance, Mr. Julius Tegiike, Director Internal Audit, Mr. Owor Dennis, also attended among other officials. The MoUs take immediate effect, with both universities and NARO set to develop implementation plans for the agreed activities. Regular progress reviews will be conducted to ensure the objectives are met.
