JUST IN His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Uganda, has appointed Mr. Pius Perry Biribonwoha as the new Solicitor General, promoting him from his previous role as Deputy Solicitor General. Mr. Biribonwoha assumes his new duties effective today October 15, 2024.

Today, I have learned that 19 of the original 32 political prisoners on the #OliviaLutaaya file have succumbed to regime coercion and pleaded guilty to crimes they did not commit after enduring nearly four years of detention without trial. It has also come to light that Mr. Museveni’s minister, Balaam, visited these political prisoners on Saturday —a non-visitation day— and pressured them to plead guilty and seek Museveni’s forgiveness or else they would never leave prison. It is worth noting that, while we have been routinely blocked from visiting these comrades, regime operatives have had unrestricted access to them during which they have held long, recorded conversations and exercised undue influence over them. Even the few times we have met them have always been brief and conducted in the presence of security operatives and prison warders who insisted on listening to every word of our conversation. This blatant abuse of rights and misuse of power must make us all to put today's events in their proper context and therefore understand instead of judging these comrades. They have spent nearly 4 years in jail without trial, and without any evidence being presented against them. By the time the comrades were forced to drop our legal team which had represented them since 2021, the lawyers had taken every step in the book to secure their freedom but without success. The regime always made it clear that this was not a legal case but a political one. They were forced to abandon their lawyers and adopt UPDF lawyers! While we understand the frustration and desperation of those who have pleaded guilty, I salute their 9 other fellow prisoners of conscience who continue to demand a fair trial or their freedom. The day of justice is near.

Has also encouraged them to open their hearts for Jesus if they want to be redeemed and see Victory.Host Headteacher, Sr. Namara Crispina also thanked the Bishop for sacrificing time to visit Seeta Junior school , she has urged the Confirmants to keep alive what has been planted in them. On behalf of the Board of Directors and P.T.A, Mr.Davis Kafumbe Mukasa Principal Seeta High Schools requested parents to keep their children in the presence of the lord because the world they are is very challenging.Thanked the Bishop for gracing their function amidst his tight schedule. Today, *Ven.David and Maama Catherine Ssekimpi* have been inducted and installed as the *11th Archdeacon of Ndeeba* Archdeaconery. This was at *St.Paul Church of Uganda in Ndeeba Parish* at the Headquarters of Ndeeba Archeadconry. The ceremony was conducted by the 5th Bishop of Mukono Diocese, *The Rt.Rev.Enos Kitto Kagodo.* The Bishop was assisted by *The Very Rev.Can.Godfrey Ssengendo* , The Diocesan Secretary *Rev.Can,John Ssebudde* , *Rev.Can.Edward Balamaze Kironde* from Seeta, Canons, Archdeacons, Clergy and Lay Readers. In the same service, *Bishop Enos Kitto Kagodo confirmed 142* confirmants into the Anglican Faith.In his sermon, *Bishop Kagodo* urged the congregation to endeavor and work hard in whatever they do and should expect profit in God’s name. In this forth-coming annual harvest, the Christians should give in whole heartedly and then should get all the reward from God, and to prepare their lives while on earth in *preparation for the eternal life in heaven* . The Bishop told the congregation that we have all been called to serve and profit.In his Charge, *Ven David Ssekimpi* has promised to construct a state of the art residence for the Archdeacon. *He will be supportive to all the Diocesan activities* like building the new cathedral, to promote mission work especially in the uniting of people from all walks of life, to put loads of care in their children who are at school and those who were not at school by providing them with educative workshops and forums which will help them in their spiritual and day to day life, to start fellowships in areas *where they are non–existent and to support those ones which are already active* among others. *Hon.Minister of State for Finance Amos Lugolobi* who was the chief guest, reiterated that the government will work hand in hand with the Diocese to promote spiritual and economic development of their people. He urged the belivers to support each other and have a strong attachment with the church and its leaders because it’s the link that connects them to God. *He has contributed one million cash ( 1.000.000/=)* towards the purchasing of the Archdeacons’ vehicle and pledged another *two million* on the same noble cause. The prime minister of Uganda Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja has today spent time at her farm in Kakumiro town council, Kakumiro district supervising a number of enterprises. These are aimed at promoting H.E President Museveni's 4 acre model approach to wealth creation and also act as a model for the general public to study new technologies and implement them. One of the amazing enterprises is the Onion plantation. With the right variety and proper mgt, an acre of onions can yield up to 23 tons sold at an average of shs 1,000 per kilogramme, this means a farmer can get a gross revenue of up to sh23m per acre a season. This is one example of engaging in farming with 'Ekibalo' as emphasized by President Museveni.Uganda the “Pearl of Africa,” is endowed with tropical climate, rich soils, 2 seasons per year and well-distributed rainfall, which provide an ideal environment for its agricultural sector. It is therefore possible for Ugandans to secure sustainable livelihoods through similar approaches. Let's all embrace the President’s message.

he High Court of Uganda has ruled in favour of Ms. Namale Desire, a daughter of a deceased migrant worker to Saudi Arabia, in a landmark case that underscores the critical importance of protecting the right to life of women externalised to work in the Middle East. Case Background Ms Namale Desire, a biological daughter of the late Milly Namutamba who died in Saudi Arabia in early 2019 sued HOREB SERVICES UGANDA LIMITED and its Director, Mr. Ezra Mugisha for violating the right to life of her mother whilst in Saudi Arabia. Desire told court that her mother was taken to work in Saudi Arabia by Horeb services Uganda LTD on 19th August 2018 as a domestic service worker. At the time of leaving the country, Milly Namutamba was in perfect health and was subjected to a medical check-up by the HOREB SERVICES UGANDA LIMITED. While her mother was in Saudi Arabia, they kept in constant communication for about five months before she unceremoniously went silent. After one month of no communication, she got worried and contacted her relatives including the Director of Horeb who advised her to go to their offices to raise the matter. She stated that she kept frequenting their company for two years seeking to know what had happened to her mother but the company was non-responsive. Later on in September 2022, her uncle through sources unknown to her discovered that her mother had died. Desire and her Uncle approached HOREB SERVICES UGANDA LIMITED’s offices and on this occasion, the respondents confirmed the death of her mother and promised to formally update them on the cause of death which they never did. The RulingToday, the High Court delivered a historic judgement, declaring that Horeb Services Ltd and its Director violated Ms. Namale Desire's Mother’s right to life, as enshrined in Uganda’s Article 22 of the Constitution of Uganda. The court held that a licensed recruitment company is obligated to assume full and complete responsibility for all acts of its officials, employees and representatives done in connection with recruitment and placement. That being the case, it is wrong on the part of M/S Horeb services Ltd to argue that the responsibility over Namutamba Milly lay against the other stakeholders and not on themselves. The legal framework clearly indicates that the M/S Horeb services Ltd bore the primary responsibility over the safety and life of the deceased migrant worker. M/S Horeb services Ltd was also the entity vested with locus to enforce against any breach of the agreed terms against either the foreign recruitment agency or the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The court has declared that the actions and omissions of M/S Horeb services Ltd and its director infringed on Namutamba Milly’s right to life and Ordered that;The M/S Horeb services Ltd and its director shall pay to the Ms. Namale Desire and her uncle paid a sum of UGX 200,000,0000/= (Uganda Shillings Two Hundred Million only) as general damages and a sum of UGX 50,000,000/=(Uganda Shillings Fifty Million only) in exemplary damages.M/S Horeb services Ltd and its director shall pay the taxed costs of the case to the applicants in the case.Key Quotes"This ruling sends a powerful message: human life is invaluable, and labour recruitment and externalisation companies who do not accept and take responsibility over migrant workers they export to the Middle East will not be tolerated." - Adv. *President Museveni Summons US Ambassador to Meeting After Independence Day*President Yoweri Museveni has summoned US Ambassador to Uganda, William Popp, for a meeting following Independence Day celebrations (October 9). The meeting is expected to address the government's concerns regarding the US Embassy's recent conduct. According to highly placed sources, President Museveni will express displeasure over the embassy's open collaboration with the opposition, providing financial, moral, and organizational support. Specifically, the political officer, Shirm Christopher, and the CIA station chief for Uganda have been linked to this support.The US Embassy has been accused of backing civil society organizations (CSOs) that promote the LGBTQ agenda and other initiatives aimed at undermining the Ugandan government. Moreover, the embassy has been targeting government and security officials with sanctions, which observers say is a strategy to hinder their decisiveness in performing their duties This development follows the Chief of Defense Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba's recent statements, urging the US envoy to apologize for his undiplomatic actions. General Kainerugaba had given the ambassador an ultimatum to apologize personally to President Museveni by Monday morning or face demands for his departure.

Today the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi led a delegation of some shadow cabinet members to an oversight visit to Atiak Sugar Factory in Amuru district run by Horyal Investments Holding. The oposition Mps were Suzan Mugabi, Okin PP Ojara,Sekabira Denis,Luttamaguzi Ssemakula,Sserukenya Davis,Lukyamuzi David Kalwanga,Joseph Ssewungu ,Gilbert Oulanya,Santa Okot,christine Ndiwalana, and Lucy Akello.One of the key concerns from the Mps was the persistent losses by the factory, contrary to the profit projection of 540 billion shilings by January 2026. The LOP wondered if the project makes any sense in terms of investment since it hasn't made any profit for 11 years since its inceptionSo far government has invested 553.7 billion shilings through the Uganda Development Corporation with the delegation calling for value for tax payers money. During the oversight visit ,it was revealed that about 200 litres of fuel is used per day to run machinery without any sugar production at the factory.
