Forgive me Sir, Controversial Frank Gashumba apologies to Buganda Prime Minister

Frank Gashumba, this Monday morning paid a visit to Bulange, Mengo, where he issued a formal apology to the Prime Minister of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga. Gashumba, known for his outspoken nature, had long been one of the Prime Minister’s most vocal critics. Over the years, he was aligned with figures like Joseph Tamale Mirundi and Sheikh Nuhu Muzaata, who accused Mayiga of undermining the political influence of Mengo, leading to what they perceived as the diminished political strength of the Kabaka and the Buganda Kingdom.   Gashumba’s trip to Bulange Mengo comes shortly after the family of the late Joseph Tamale Mirundi, another fierce critic of Mayiga, visited the Prime Minister to offer an apology on behalf of the deceased.   During their meeting on Monday, Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga expressed awareness of the criticism Gashumba had directed towards him in recent years, stating that he had heard the remarks but refrained from responding in order to uphold the decorum expected of a leader of Buganda.   “I am the King’s Prime Minister, and I could not respond to him because that would be bad leadership,” Mayiga noted.  “A man once shot Pope John Paul, and he was arrested and jailed. But we were shocked one day to see the pope posing with the man who nearly ended his life. So I thought, what about me who was not even shot—someone who just said words about me—coming to have a drink with me?” he shared to the restoration of our friendship.”He also urged Gashumba to desist from using abusive language, suggesting that it is sufficient to present facts without resorting to insults.On his part, Frank Gashumba voiced his remorse noting that he was wrong to have gone against the people of Buganda who graciously accommodated Rwanda refugees decades ago. "My grandparents came here from Rwanda in 1922. There is no place in Uganda that welcomed Rwandans like Buganda. Buganda was the only place in this country where Rwandans came in and did not need to have refugee camps,” he said.Prime Minister Mayiga and Frank Gashumba at BulangePrime Minister Mayiga and Frank Gashumba at Bulange“That was why before our grandfather died in 1984, he told us never to be antagonistic with Buganda and its people,” Gashumba stated. He expressed his desire to rekindle the relationship with Mayiga, describing how their bond had gone through “little misunderstandings” but emphasised the counsel he received from elders, including the late Bishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, to seek reconciliation. Gashumba admitted to having regrets over his past actions and statements, acknowledging that he sometimes lost his temper. “At times we lose our cool; there are videos of me that I look at and wonder if it was me that said such words. It was all a mistake. I last came here in 2010.” He concluded by expressing a wish to return to Mengo with other members of the Rwandan community. “I would request you to allow me next time to come back here with my fellow Rwandans because they love and they love the kingdom.” The meeting ended on a positive note, with both parties expressing their willingness to put the past behind them and move forward in unity.

CoRSU Holds Inaugural Walk for People with Disabilities, Advocates for Greater SupportKampala,

   Today marked a significant milestone in Uganda's journey toward inclusivity as Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services for People with Disability in Uganda (CoRSU) hosted its inaugural walk, bringing together over 1,000 participants. The event, which aimed to raise awareness about the challenges faced by people with disabilities and to mobilize greater support for their rights, saw widespread community participation.  The walk was graced by the Minister of State for Disability Affairs, Hon. Asamo Hellen Grace, as the Guest of Honour. Hon. Dr. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, State Minister for Gender, Labour, and Social Development in charge of Children and Youth Affairs, was also in attendance, alongside CoRSU Board and staff members.While flagging off the 5km participants, Hon. Asamo emphasized the critical need for sustained efforts in empowering people with disabilities, noting the significant work that organizations like CoRSU have done. “We are proud of CoRSU's achievements. The more than 60,000 individuals who have benefited from their services is a testament to the organization's unwavering commitment to the welfare of people with disabilities.   But our work is far from over; we need to keep pushing for more inclusivity and support for this cause. Today’s walk will restore hope and go along way in reducing stigma among people with disabilities,” she said.CoRSU has been at the forefront of providing surgical and physical rehabilitation services to people with disabilities in Uganda.    Beyond surgeries, the organization focuses on holistic rehabilitation, ensuring individuals regain their physical independence and reintegrate into society with dignity.With over 12.4% of Uganda's population living with some form of disability, the call for more targeted interventions is louder than ever. The event underscored the need for a collaborative approach involving the government, the private sector, and civil society to ensure that people with disabilities receive the necessary care, support, and opportunities to thrive.Hon. Dr. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, State Minister for Gender, Labour, and Social Development in charge of Children and Youth Affairs expressed, “Being disabled does not limit your potential. For the good work that CoRSU is doing, I appreciate them. Through our ministry, we shall ensure that the equipment at CoRSU is improved to a world class standard and that more medicines will be available so that more disabled people continue to get the help they need.CoRSU’s leadership also took the opportunity to express gratitude to the government for creating an enabling environment for their operations. “Today is our inaugural walk. We have been in existence for the last 11 years but not many people know about CoRSU. We are here today to bring awareness and for Ugandans to know that CoRSU has the best facilities for treatment for people with disabilities particularly from disadvantaged communities.   Our goal is not just to treat but to empower but we cannot do it alone. Uganda Migrant workers Leader Calls for representative inclusion in NCM

The National Coordination Mechanisms on Migration (NCM) is a government-led inter-agency platform in Uganda aimed at harmonizing migration governance policies. Its objectives include compiling migration data for evidence-based policymaking, enforcing migration laws, and fostering continuous dialogue among stakeholders.   Recently, a high-level dialogue was held on October 3, 2024, to discuss the implementation of the Global Compact on Migration (GCM). Mr. Kayonde Abdallah, President of Migrant Workers' Voice, represented migrant workers during this dialogue. He emphasized the importance of including representatives of migrant workers in the National Coordination Mechanism Committee on Migration ( NCM) to ensure their voices are heard and represented directly in policy discussions that directly affect them.   This dialogue, facilitated by IOM under the Better Migration Management Program, aims to enhance collaboration among stakeholders and address challenges in implementing the GCM. The outcomes will contribute to the upcoming regional GCM review in Addis Ababa from October 8-10 and will inform the African Union's report for the UN General Assembly's second global review in 2026.   Mr. Abdallah's call for inclusion of migrant worker representatives underscores the need for a more inclusive approach to migration governance in Uganda.

Avoid Engaging in Sectarian Politics and utilize available opportunities president Museveni Urges Graduants at kisubi university 9th Graduation

The creation of this University is a product of my Government’s vision of mobilising all Ugandans to develop our nation. The NRM’s DNA is to partner with private individuals, organisations, and institutions to provide services and develop our people. We can do more together because each has a role to play, and the synergy generated from the team is much more than what an individual or group can achieve. Therefore, I thank the Catholic Church and the Brothers of Christian Instruction for supporting and working with my Government to develop our Country, Uganda. The role you have played over the years, especially in education, health, social services, preaching and promoting peaceful coexistence, is commendable and deserves appreciation. I assure you of the Government's continued support.        Besides the Church and the Brothers, I congratulate the University on several achievements it has registered since 2010, when I officiated at the graduation ceremony at this campus. At that time, the University was a small college, but with clear-headed leadership, it had already set out to focus on science education, which was in line with my Government's priorities. That is why I am proud to be associated with the work going on at this University. In addition to the steady progress made, the University successfully implemented the Science teacher scholarship scheme, graduating 347 science teachers who are all gainfully employed. The University has grown its science offerings by adding Biomedical Sciences, and now it is set to offer nursing and midwifery programs. I, therefore, congratulate the University for being honest and using the allocated resources appropriately, unlike some institutions that engage in corrupt tendencies and abuse the resources.  The ongoing research and innovations at this University have attracted my attention because they align with the NRM manifesto and Vision 2040, which aims to transform Uganda from a peasant society to a prosperous Country. I am impressed that during the 14th Annual Higher Education Exhibition organised by the National Council for Higher Education, the University of Kisubi was ranked second in the Public and Chartered University category. These innovations are evidence of the serious work going on at this University.  I am happy to note that the theme under which you exhibited, “Fostering Graduate Employability and Innovations", is current because it focuses on solving the unemployment among our youth. My Government will continue to support such endeavours through the relevant ministries and departments, especially the Ministry of Science and Technology, to ensure that these innovations are transformed into marketable products to create more jobs, generate tax revenue and transform our Country. Besides the achievements made, I challenge the University to do even more in research, innovations and developing programs that address the needs of our Country. We cannot sit back and wait for other people to come and develop Uganda. Our primary responsibility is to defend, protect and promote this Country for ourselves and future generations.  I wish to focus on you, the graduands, the cause of our gathering today. Congratulations! Your joy is our joy. Besides the graduation parties you will be enjoying, you must immediately realise that your graduation is a passage to adulthood, which implies learning to care for yourself and those dear to you, pay your bills, decide what to do, how to do it, when to do it, with whom to do it, bear the consequences and reap the benefits. You are lucky to have graduated when several developments are happening in our Country because of the excellent NRM leadership. For example, I commissioned a 600-megawatt dam at Karuma last week. Coffee earnings are at the highest level in our history; we are about to start exploiting our oil, and Ugandans live longer than ever.  All these developments are happening because of the Government’s clear priorities. We started by ensuring peace throughout the Country and are now handling other sectors. The developments happening in our Country are not an accident; they are happening because we have been intentional. To benefit from these developments, you must take care of yourselves by avoiding reckless living, avoiding alcohol and drug abuse, exercising regularly, avoiding riots and bad politics, engaging in value addition, driving carefully on our roads and avoiding corruption. In addition, I urge you to avoid the nay-sayers and those who engage in continuous criticisms; such people miss out on the opportunities before them because they focus on the negatives! They always think that the glass is half empty!  Imagine the amount of energy (power) we produce in the Country.     Power is a vast resource: It is the driving force of nearly all human activities, from the vehicles we drive to the homes, hospitals, schools, security forces and workplaces and the machinery we use. That is why by examining the power a country produces, you can tell whether it is developed. When the NRM Government took over the leadership of this nation, the Country was generating less than 80 megawatts of power, but now it is over 2000 megawatts and still growing. This power must be used, and you, the young generation, must use this energy to create jobs and push our Country to the top middle class and beyond.   Finally, I wish to thank the parents, guardians, and benefactors of these graduands for sacrificing their resources to educate their sons and daughters at this University. You have given them the best gift in their lives, and they will not regret it.

The Busega-Mpigi Expressway🚧Construction works on the 23.7Km Expressway that is envisioned to greatly reduce traffic congestion on the Masaka highway are currently placed at 43.55%.  The highly awaited project comprising the main dual expressway with 4 lanes , 4 interchanges, 13 bridges, and 4 toll plazas  and an additional 21 Km of link roads is expected to be completed by August 2027. @GenWamala inspected the project to see what challenges it is facing and how @MoWT_Uganda can step in to help so as to curtail any further delays.    The project will greatly facilitate trade and logistics on the Northern Corridor feeding into Rwanda and DRC. The interchanges and link roads will also ease access to the Northern bypass, Entebbe Expressway and Mityana road.

Operation Shujaa: Joint Forces Review Progress to Chart Way Forward

 The periodic operation Shujaa review meeting sitting at the Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces Mountain Division headquarters in Muhoti Fort Portal City has closed after two days of intense deliberations.The meeting that was opened on Monday 30th September 2024 by the Commander Land Force Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga attracted commanders from the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) led by Maj Gen Nyembo Abdallah Bath and Maj Gen Bruno Mandevu.  Lt Gen Kayanja thanked the two Heads of state, His Excellencies Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni President of the Republic of Uganda, and His Excellency Felix Thsilombo Tshisekedi President of the Democratic Republic of Congo for their strategic insight that led to the instituting of a joint operation force that has relieved the Wanaichi of DRC and Uganda from the atrocities of the terrorists ADF.He emphasized the need for continued enhancement of cooperation 'Ushirikiano' between UPDF and FARDC to enable the joint forces to completely route the ADF.   The FARDC head of delegation Maj Gen Nyembo Abdallah thanked the UPDF for the sacrifice made during Operation Shujaa which has led to peace and stability in the sectors where the joint forces are operating "We shall continue to work together shoulder by shoulder to defeat the ADF" Said Maj Gen Abdallah.Maj Gen Richard Otto, Commander of the UPDF Mountain Division and Operation Shujaa expressed gratitude for the successful collaboration between joint forces, citing several accomplished missions. He specifically acknowledged the tactical commanders for their tireless efforts in pursuing the enemy through treacherous terrain.   The periodic operation review meetings for Operation Shujaa serve as a crucial platform where the joint forces of Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) discuss emerging challenges and explore new opportunities for success. They enable the forces to reassess their strategy and forge a way forward to effectively combat the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorist group.   During these review meetings, Commanders from both UPDF and FARDC Land forces convene to deliberate on the outcomes and chart a course for future operations. The decisions made are then presented to the Chiefs of Defence Forces for approval and signature, solidifying the joint forces' commitment to operational success.
