Minister Muyingo launches Phase Two of agricultural support programme in Bamunanika, reaching 2,626 homes
The Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, has launched Phase Two of its agricultural support programme in Bamunanika Constituency, distributing hoes to 2,626 households in a move aimed at boosting food production, fighting poverty and improving household incomes. The exercise was officially launched at Bamunanika Sub-county headquarters in Kanseka and forms part of the government’s continued efforts to strengthen agricultural productivity among rural communities.Speaking through his representative, Mr Wasswa Abdulkarim Tamale, State Minister for Higher Education, Hon. Dr JC Muyingo, urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the hoes to improve agricultural output and transform their livelihoods. He emphasized that government programmes are intended to help wananchi move out of poverty through active participation in agriculture and other income-generating activities.“This support is meant to empower families to increase food production, fight hunger and create sustainable sources of income. We encourage all beneficiaries to put the hoes to productive use and embrace government programmes aimed at wealth creation,” the minister’s message noted. The distribution targets households across the 42 parishes that make up Bamunanika Constituency.Bamunanika Sub-county Chairperson praised Dr Muyingo for responding to various community concerns and for maintaining close engagement with local leaders and residents.Meanwhile, police Officer at Bamunanika ,Sarah Achan, commended Dr Muyingo for his support to security personnel, citing his contribution towards the repair of three police motorcycles and provision of fuel to facilitate operations. The Bamunanika Agricultural Officer, Mr Sserunjoji Sam Kityo, revealed that Phase One of the programme saw the distribution of 6,000 hoes. He said the successful implementation of the first phase encouraged government and local leaders to extend support to more households. He expressed confidence that the availability of farming tools would help residents cultivate their land and boost agricultural production.Local Council One chairpersons applauded the NRM Government and President Yoweri Museveni for rolling out community empowerment initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga and agricultural support programmes, which they said are helping many families improve their standards of living. Among the beneficiaries was 76-year-old widow Rebecca Nakato, who expressed gratitude after receiving a new hoe. She explained that her previous hoe had become worn out and that the new farming tool would greatly assist her in preparing her garden for the upcoming planting season.The distribution of hoes highlights government’s renewed commitment to supporting rural farmers with essential agricultural inputs. In many rural communities, the hoe remains the most important farming implement, enabling households to cultivate land, increase food production, improve food security and generate income. As government accelerates service delivery and wealth creation initiatives across the country, leaders say such interventions will continue to play a crucial role in transforming agriculture from subsistence farming into a pathway for economic growth and household prosperity.
