The Minister of State for Higher Education, Hon. Dr. John Chrysestom Muyingo, has officially flagged off 209 Ugandan students who have been awarded fully funded scholarships by the Government of Algeria to pursue further studies in various disciplines.
The colorful flag-off ceremony was held this morning at the ICT Innovation Hub in Nakawa, and was graced by the Ambassador of Algeria to Uganda, H.E. Amokrane Mourad.

Speaking during the event, Dr. Muyingo commended the strong and growing partnership between Uganda and Algeria, particularly in the education sector. He noted that such initiatives not only strengthen bilateral relations but also contribute to Uganda’s human capital development.
“This is an opportunity for you to represent Uganda with dignity and excellence. Study hard, conduct yourselves well, and when you return, contribute meaningfully to the development of our nation,” said Dr. Muyingo.

According to Mr. Muzamir Mukwatampola, Commissioner in the Ministry of Education and Sports, the scholarship recipients will travel in three batches, with the first group of 79 students departing tomorrow morning. The students will pursue courses in Science and Technology, Engineering, Medicine, and other professional fields at various Algerian universities.

Ambassador Mourad Amokrane revealed that the Algerian Government has increased the scholarship quota for Ugandan students from 210 to 260, reflecting the deepening educational cooperation between the two countries.
“We are committed to enhancing our academic and cultural ties with Uganda. Education is a bridge between our nations and a foundation for mutual progress,” the Ambassador remarked.

Parents and students expressed gratitude to both the Government of Uganda and the Government of Algeria for the life-changing opportunity, pledging to uphold the values of discipline and hard work while abroad.
This scholarship program stands as a symbol of the cordial diplomatic relations and shared vision between Uganda and Algeria—anchored in education, innovation, and youth empowerment.
