LUWEERO – Kakoola High School has passed out 880 learners who successfully completed a Patriotism Programme aimed at nurturing responsible citizenship, national unity, discipline and love for Uganda.

The call for patriotism and character formation was echoed during a colourful ceremony held at the school’s Bamunanika campus in Luweero District, where education leaders urged parents across the country to play a more active role in shaping children into responsible citizens.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Mpiima Michael, representing the association of Senior School Head Teachers in Luweero District, emphasized that patriotism begins at home and called upon parents to support efforts aimed at instilling national values, discipline and good character among young people.

He noted that children first learn values from their families and that parents therefore have a critical role in nurturing patriotism, respect, responsibility and a spirit of service to the nation.

The ceremony marked the successful completion of Patriotism training by 880 learners who were equipped with knowledge and skills designed to strengthen their commitment to national development and responsible citizenship.

Kakoola High School Head Teacher, Mr. Mike Wagaba, highlighted the importance of combining academic excellence with patriotism and co-curricular activities that contribute to the holistic development of learners.

He noted that the school actively encourages participation in football, drama, debate, athletics and other activities that build leadership, teamwork and confidence among students.

“This programme complements classroom learning by helping learners appreciate their role as citizens while developing valuable life skills through sports and other co-curricular engagements,” he said.

The event also marked the climax of the school’s inter-house sports competitions involving Mugagga House, Mbaaga House, Charles House and Kizito House. After intense competition, Mugagga House emerged overall champions, walking away with the trophy and a bull as the top prize.

Learners who participated in the Patriotism Programme praised the training for equipping them with leadership skills, discipline, teamwork and a deeper understanding of their responsibilities as citizens.

A Senior One learner described the programme as transformative, saying it had taught students the importance of respecting national symbols, loving their country and becoming responsible members of society.

A Senior Five learner said the training had strengthened leadership abilities and inspired participants to contribute positively to community development and national progress.

The school community also paid tribute to the founders and directors of Kakoola High School, Hon. Dr. J.C. Muyingo and Mrs. Rose Muyingo, for their continued commitment to expanding access to quality education and transforming lives through learning.

Speakers commended the couple for their visionary investment in education, noting that what was once largely undeveloped land has become a vibrant centre of learning that continues to empower thousands of young Ugandans with knowledge, skills and values for the future.

Kakoola High School continues to distinguish itself as a centre of academic excellence, character formation and leadership development, preparing learners to become responsible citizens and future leaders of Uganda.
