Residents of Butuntumula Subcounty in Katikamu South Constituency, Luweero District, have been urged to shift their focus from politics to productive work that improves household incomes and livelihoods.

The message was delivered on behalf of Hon. Dr. JC Muyingo, the State Minister for Higher Education, by his Political Personal Assistant and ONC Regional Coordinator for Greater Luweero, Wasswa Abdulkarim Tamale, during the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected Butuntumula leaders led by Chairperson Tebesigwa Shaban Mulan Mukiibi and other councilors.

The ceremony attracted elected leaders, former leaders, religious leaders, and residents from across Butuntumula and neighboring areas within Katikamu South Constituency.

In his message, Minister Muyingo emphasized that the election season is now over and residents should concentrate on economic activities that can improve their standards of living.

“There is time for everything. The season for politics has ended and now families should focus on work that generates income so that citizens can live better lives with money in their pockets,” the minister’s message stated.

Muyingo also appreciated the support given to President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM during the previous elections and called upon residents to continue supporting elected leaders to enable them deliver services effectively without discrimination.

“You are now leaders for all people regardless of political party, religion, or background. Our people need unity and proper service delivery,” the message added.

Speaking shortly after taking oath, the newly sworn-in Butuntumula Chairperson, Tebesigwa Shaban Mulan Mukiibi, pledged to serve all residents equally and use his experience to drive development in the subcounty.

Mukiibi also warned young people against irresponsible sale of family land, saying the increasing population and land demand could leave many families homeless if the trend is not controlled.

“The population is increasing and strangers are buying land from our people, leaving families without property. During my leadership, I will not allow reckless sale of family land,” Mukiibi said.

He directed all LC1 chairpersons in the subcounty to remain vigilant and ensure land transactions are properly scrutinized to protect local residents.

Meanwhile, NRM Secretariat official Rogers Mulindwa called upon newly elected leaders to embrace President Museveni’s mobilization slogan of “No Sleep, No Corruption.”

“We are all working to ensure Uganda continues progressing under the leadership of the NRM and President Museveni,” Mulindwa said.

The NRM spokesperson for Luweero District, Kibirige, also called for reconciliation among residents following political disagreements experienced during the election period.

“People should forgive one another and move on because life continues after politics,” he said.

The event concluded with calls for unity, hard work, reconciliation, and improved service delivery in Butuntumula Subcounty and the wider Katikamu South Constituency.
