Uganda's FEASSA Games Contingent Flagged Off: St Cyprian High School Kyabakadde to Represent Uganda

 The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) has officially flagged off its delegation of 1,582 student-athletes to participate in the 2025 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games in Kakamega, Kenya. The games will take place from August 12th to 23rd, featuring 22 disciplines, including debut sports like chess and scrabble. St Cyprian High School's Pledge to ShineSt Cyprian High School Kyabakadde has been entrusted with the honor of representing Uganda in the FEASSA Games. The school's Head of Sports has expressed gratitude to the school administration, led by Headteacher Mr. Joseph Kamya, for their unwavering support. The team has pledged to bring a big win to Uganda, citing their rigorous preparation and determination.  Government SupportThe Ugandan government has reiterated its commitment to sports development, with Dr. Patrick Benard Ogwel, General Secretary of the National Council of Sports, emphasizing the importance of discipline and a clear team strategy. Mukesh Shukla and others urge NRM veting committee to be fair as delegates conference gets closer

 The national resistance movement (NRM) party Electoral Commission, in partnership with the party secretary general, has today held a special conference with members who are contesting for Central Executive Committee (CEC) positions in the country. During his address, the Chairperson of the commission, Dr. Tanga Odoi, has said that the Delegates conference at Kololo ceremonial grounds, expected to host about 20 thousand delegates from across the Country. The meeting has been taking place at the party Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala where various members have attended.  "The delegates conference is going to take place at Kololo ceremonial grounds and all those who will attend the meeting, Will be accredited first, get tags and other requirements before the meeting. This will be done in order to close the door for those wishing to impersonate.   I Would like to tell those who are planning to come to the delegates conference minus accreditation, that they will be prosecuted." He said. The vice secretary general, Rose Namayanja, speaking at the same event, she said that all the delegates will be catered for by the party and they should not worry about their safety, health, and allowances, etc, for the period they will be at the delegates conference in Kololo ceremonial grounds.  In the same manner, Mukesh Shukla, who is running for central executive committee position, has said that the meeting has been useful to them as members because some of the members have been facing various challenges. He urged the party leaders who will be handling the elections, just to be fair. " The meeting has been of good importance and we urge the leaders who will handle the voting exercise in Kololo ceremonial grounds just to be fair. I don't agree with members who tarnish other people's names just because of the position. I think that is not good because we are a big family and we should remain united", he said.  Other members who attended the meeting have raised concerns about the members who are contesting for same positions, yet are one of those at the veting committee. Sewavah Mukasa, a member aspiring for CEC Position as vice chairman in Buganda region, said that the top leaders of the party should be exemprary by doing the right things and not engaging in anything contrary to the laws governing the party.  Quinto Ojok, a aspiring CEC member, Northern region, says it is unfair for party members contesting for positions to engage in the veting process because they will express a conflict of interest. Others who attended the meeting are; Hon. Jim Muhwezi, Hon. Kintu Florence, among others. The serving period for the current CEC Members will be ending on 20th August 2025. And the delegates conference will be held at the end of this month.

Hon. Min. Dr. JC Muyingo Praises 200 Graduates of IYF Academy for Acquiring Market-Driven Skills

 The International Youth Fellowship (IYF) Academy Today celebrated its 5th graduation ceremony at Rubaga, with over 200 learners acquiring valuable skills in various fields. The event was graced by Hon. *Uganda’s Deputy Head of Mission in Riyadh Kicks Off Football Match to Strengthen Community Bonds and Promote Cultural Diplomacy*Riyadh, August 9, 2025  On August 8, 2025, Ambassador Sheik Sulaiman Guggwa Lubega, Uganda’s Deputy Head of Mission in Riyadh, officially inaugurated a much-awaited football match among Ugandan communities living in Saudi Arabia. The event, which took place at the Riyadh Football Pitch, represents an important step by the embassy to enhance cultural connections and support Uganda’s government agenda on culture and economic diplomacy.  In his opening remarks, Ambassador Guggwa highlighted the need for unity and togetherness among Ugandans residing in Riyadh. He encouraged community members to engage freely with the Ugandan Embassy, reminding them that the embassy’s doors remain open for anyone wishing to share challenges, present business opportunities, or seek support.  “The embassy door is wide open, and you should feel confident to approach our committed staff. If you wish to speak directly with me, just ask, and you will be brought in,” Ambassador Guggwa affirmed. He also commended the community’s initiative to hold football matches as a positive outlet to relieve stress and build social relationships while living far from home.Beyond fostering social wellness, Ambassador Guggwa advised Ugandans who have the legal ability to bring their spouses to Riyadh to do so, pointing out the emotional benefits that family companionship brings, particularly after work. “Having your legally married wives with you, if financially feasible, is an excellent way to ease stress,” he noted.  The Ambassador further echoed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s directive on Operation Wealth Creation, motivating Ugandans in Riyadh to be diligent and to establish or enhance Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) as a means of driving development back in Uganda. He assured the diaspora of the embassy’s full support for these efforts and conveyed warm greetings from the Mission’s Head, Ambassador Isaac Ssebulime.  The competitive match featured teams representing Ugandan communities from Riyadh and Jeddah, with the Riyadh team narrowly winning 3-2, thrilling fans present at the venue.Joining Ambassador Guggwa at the event were notable embassy officials including Assistant Consulars Hamza Ssebagala and Ismail Kateera, as well as Hajji Kafumbe, leader of the Senior Community Leaders Club in Riyadh, all of whom actively engaged with the Ugandan diaspora during the occasion.This football match marks the beginning of a wider cultural and international exchange initiative led by Uganda’s diplomatic mission in Riyadh, designed to reinforce community solidarity and showcase Ugandan cultural heritage abroad.

NRM Tribunal Dismisses Petition Against Nakut Faith Loru's Election

 The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Election Disputes Tribunal has dismissed a petition filed by Hon. Namoe Stella Nyomera against the election of Hon. Nakut Faith Loru as the party's flag bearer for Woman Member of Parliament in Napak District.   The petition, which was filed after the NRM primary elections held on July 17, 2025, alleged irregularities, including falsification of results, ineligible voters, and obstruction of the petitioner's agents from accessing the tally center.However, after hearing the case, the tribunal ruled that the petitioner failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove the allegations and that the irregularities alleged did not substantially affect the outcome of the election.   The tribunal therefore dismissed the petition and upheld the declaration of Hon. Nakut Faith Loru as the duly elected NRM flag bearer for Woman Member of Parliament in Napak District.Key Highlights from the Tribunal's Ruling- The petitioner alleged irregularities in three sub-counties, but the tribunal found that the evidence provided was not sufficient to prove the allegations.- The tribunal noted that the petitioner's claims of falsification of results and ineligible voters were not supported by concrete evidence.- The margin of victory between the two candidates was significant, and the tribunal found that even if the alleged irregularities had occurred, they would not have materially altered the outcome of the election.   The ruling brings to an end the dispute over the NRM primary elections in Napak District and clears the way for Hon. Nakut Faith Loru to contest the general elections as the party's flag bearer.

Uganda’s Attorney General Kilyowa Kiwanuka Given 45-Day Ultimatum to Account for Lost Ugandan Migrant Workers as Calls for Justice Intensify

Federation of Ugandan Migrant Workers Associations moves to sue government over neglect, exploitation, and vanishing citizens under labor export program; ministry faces legal action for alleged breach of duty.Kampala, Uganda Uganda’s Attorney General, Kilyowa Kiwanuka, has been served a final notice by the Federation of Ugandan Migrant Workers Associations (FUMWA) and its lawyers, M/S Guma & Co. Advocates, demanding full accountability for the alarming number of Ugandan migrant workers who have disappeared, suffered abuse, or died abroad after being cleared for labor export by the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development (MGLSD). This legal ultimatum follows years of escalating reports of Ugandans mainly in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states vanishing, enduring torture, languishing in foreign jails, or being deported under circumstances that activists and victims’ families describe as “preventable tragedies.” The government now has 45 days to respond before FUMWA files a formal petition at the High Court, seeking sweeping reforms, compensation, and a forensic audit of the entire labor export system.Mounting Frustration, Legal ActionThe notice, served on July 24, 2025, accuses the MGLSD of “negligence and breach of statutory and constitutional duties,” arguing that the ministry’s regulatory framework has “failed catastrophically to protect citizens.” According to FUMWA, government-licensed recruitment agencies have operated with impunity, exploiting workers and exposing them to trafficking, abuse, and death, while the ministry’s reactive suspensions of agencies such as Albail Manpower Services, Middle East Consultants, and over a dozen others have left already-deployed workers “abandoned and unprotected.” Key Grievances and DemandsThe intended petition cites systemic failures in licensing, monitoring, and aftercare, including the suspension of agencies without providing alternative support, leaving vulnerable workers and their families “with no urgency responsible for their follow-up or assistance.” It also highlights the ministry’s alleged failure to meet international obligations under ILO conventions and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, to which Uganda is a party. Reliefs demanded by FUMWA include:Immediate search, rescue, and repatriation of stranded or abandoned Ugandan migrant workers abroadFull accountability for all funds collected by the ministry reportedly $30 per job order for deployment clearanceGeneral damages compensation of UGX 500 billion (over $130 million) for affected workers and familiesRatification of ILO Convention No. 189 and suspension of bilateral labor agreements with countries that violate migrant rights A halt to labor externalization until comprehensive reforms are enactedEstablishment of a tripartite forensic audit committee to scrutinize recruitment agencies and government units, including a lifestyle audit of implicated officialsCreation of a compensation fund jointly managed by government, recruiters, and FUMWALegal GroundingThe petition will be based on Uganda’s Constitution, the Employment Act, the Civil Procedure and Limitation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, the Government Proceedings Act, the Employment (Recruitment of Ugandan Migrant Workers) Regulations, and relevant international conventions.What Happens Now? If the Attorney General and the ministry do not act on these demands within 45 days, FUMWA will proceed to the High Court to force government action.
