 In a colorful function held at Seeta Junior School, Mukono Mbalala, 146 cabinet ministers were sworn in as leaders. The ceremony began with a Holy Mass led by Rev.  A cross-section of national instructors gathered at Wakatayi Secondary School in Zirobwe on June 18, 2025, to witness the pass-out ceremony of patriots from Luweero Bamunanika Secondary Schools. The event was organized by Hajji Kabuye Abubakar, Head Teacher of Wakatayi Secondary School, in conjunction with the National Secretariat of Patriotism Corps of Uganda. The seven-day training program was attended by senior instructors from various schools, including Kakoola High School, Bulemeezi Secondary School, St. Kalori Mulajje Secondary School, Bamunanika Technical Institute, Mpigi Secondary School, and St. John's Kalebe Secondary School, among others.Mj Kyandiha delivered a keynote message, cautioning young people about the dangers of early marriages and the impact of HIV/AIDS. Nakaseke’s Dairy Sector Gets a Major Lift with UGX 845M Milk Collection Centre

 The  Permanent Secretary,  Ministry of Local Government, Mr. Ben Kumumanya, has commissioned the UGX 845 million Buwana Milk Collection Centre located in Kinyogoga Sub-County, Nakaseke District.Constructed under the Local Economic Growth Support (LEGS) Project, the facility marks a significant milestone in strengthening the dairy value chain and enhancing rural incomes across the Nakaseke cattle corridor. The milk collection centre is one of several strategic investments by the LEGS Project in Nakaseke, aimed at improving infrastructure, boosting agricultural productivity, and expanding market access.Other interventions constructed by the LEGS project in Nakaseke include the rehabilitation of the 33 km Gomero–Migani–Kagongi–Buwana Road, the Gayaza–Kalungu–Mityomere Community Access Road, Magoma and Katelekamese Market Sheds, the Kikwata Coffee Processing Facility, and the Kiwoko Maize Milling Plant.The Permanent Secretary, Ben Kumumanya, commended Nakaseke District for its commendable service delivery, as reflected in their strong performance under the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP), where they ranked 12th out of 176 Local Governments.   He also praised their impressive revenue collection efforts, which placed them 14th nationally, and assured the district of consideration under LEGS II, citing their commitment to implementing Government programmes.  These developments have greatly improved connectivity and market linkages, enabling farmers to transport their produce particularly milk more efficiently and profitably.According to Mr. Abaho Dan, Chairperson of the Buwana Comparative Milk Group, the community has sufficient milk supply to fully utilize the facility. He added that plans are underway to venture into milk value addition to help stabilize and improve prices. “Currently, a litre of milk goes for UGX 700, but we hope this will increase once value is added through processing,” he said. He also credited the improved Gomero–Migani road for easing access to markets. “In the past, when the road was impassable, a litre of milk would fetch only UGX 200. Today, thanks to the improved infrastructure, prices have risen to UGX 700,” he noted.Importantly, the milk centre complements the efforts by the LEGS project to enhance livestock productivity through the training of Artificial Insemination (AI) technicians in the district who were trained two years ago.Local youth and extension workers were also equipped with skills to offer AI services, a move expected to improve cattle breeds and increase milk and production .  The LEGS Project  also speaks to  the Parish Development Model (PDM) by addressing critical pillars such as production, value addition, infrastructure development, market access, and financial inclusion.  Through this integrated approach, the Government of Uganda , the Lives and Livelihood Fund and Islamic Development Fund  are steadily transforming rural livelihoods and empowering subsistence farmers to transition into the money economy.

 In a landmark event for Kibuku District, the Minister for Local Government Raphael Magyezi, officially commissioned the Buseeta Milk Collection Centre an initiative that promises to transform the region’s dairy sector and improve household incomes. Constructed at a cost of UGX 667 million under the Local Economic Growth Support (LEGS) Project, with funding from the Islamic Development Bank and the Lives and livelihood Fund, the facility is equipped with a 6,000-litre milk cooler and a backup generator, addressing a long-standing challenge of milk storage and quality control. While touring the facility, Hon. Magyezi applauded the resilience of the Kibuku District Dairy Farmers Cooperative Society (KIDDFCS), which started in 2018 with just 40 members and now boasts 361, including 215 fully paid-up. He emphasized the need to strengthen the cooperative’s impact by setting up a veterinary clinic and livestock drug shop, not only to serve farmers but also to attract wider clientele. “This Centre must go beyond cooling milk it should be a hub for value addition, animal health, and innovation,” he advised.He also pledged government support through the LEGS 2 to provide a yoghurt making machine to boost value addition. “Improving cattle breeds and processing milk into yoghurt, butter, or cheese is where real income begins,” he said, encouraging farmers to shift from low yield local breeds to improved ones and leverage the already trained eight Artificial Insemination technicians who have bred over 300 cows and produced 120 improved calves across the district.To secure sustainability, the Minister urged the district to work with the Church to allocate more land for a training center. “We must build capacity. Let us plan for a dairy training Centre right here to keep this momentum alive,” he said.  Hon. Magyezi also announced that he had joined the cooperative as a member symbolizing his commitment to the cause and urged young people to benefit from PDM & Micro-Finance Funds under MSC-LEGSP. “Let the youth work and earn this will reduce cattle theft,” he stated.Women were not left out of the narrative. The Minister appreciated the female cooperative members making mineral blocks for dairy cows and encouraged them to expand production.   “This is the kind of grassroots initiative we must support. You're adding value in ways that matter,” he said.Chairperson Stephen Bola hailed the Centre as a “lifeline for farmers” and thanked the government, partners, and the Catholic Archdiocese of Tororo for the land donation. He revealed that the Cooperative buys milk at UGX 1,050 per litre and sells it locally at UGX 1,400 and UGX 1,200 to wholesalers, ensuring fair trade for members. Assumpta Tibamwenda the Technical Advisor at the Ministry of Local Government urged district leaders to institutionalize strong maintenance and governance systems to ensure the sustainability of LEGS investments. “This is the future of Uganda’s rural economy. Let’s protect it, grow it, and pass it on.” As the community gears up for yoghurt and cheese production, the Cooperative also awaits a UGX 216 million tractor under the Micro Support Center scheme. With a clear vision, growing membership, and strong government backing, the Milk Collection Centre is fast positioning itself as a model for rural dairy development and economic transformation.
