Breaking News: Pastor Samuel Kajoba Elected as New President of Adventist Church in Uganda

 Kampala, Uganda — The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Uganda has a new leader. Pastor Samuel Kajoba has been elected as the President of the Uganda Union Mission (UUM), taking over from Pastor Dr. Maka Moses Ndimukika, who recently assumed the role of Executive Secretary of the East-Central Africa Division (ECD) Pastor Kajoba will serve as head of the Adventist Church in Uganda for the next five years, providing spiritual and administrative leadership to thousands of members across the country.The election was conducted by the Nominating Committee chaired by Dr. Blasious Ruguri, the ECD President. Uganda was represented on the committee by two members: Pastor Edward Muwanga, President of the South-Western Uganda Field (SWUF), and Mrs. Esther Waiswa, the Youth Director at Uganda Union Mission. The leadership change comes after Pastor Dr. Ndimukika’s elevation to the ECD Secretariat, leaving the top seat in Uganda vacant. Pastor Kajoba’s appointment now fills that gap, ushering in a new era for the Adventist community in the country. The East-Central Africa Division (ECD) of the Seventh-day Adventist Church oversees church operations in 11 African countries — Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. Its mission is “to make disciples of all people, communicating the everlasting gospel in the context of the Three Angels’ Messages of Revelation 14:6–12.” Pastor Kajoba’s leadership is expected to strengthen the Adventist Church’s presence in Uganda and continue the work of evangelism, education, and community development pioneered by his predecessors.

Parliament Orders Controversial Lukwago to Back Off Nakivubo Channel Project, Deploys Infrastructure Committee to Harmonize

 Kampala, Uganda — Kampala City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago on Monday faced a major setback after being sent out of the Parliamentary Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) during a heated session over the controversial Nakivubo Channel redevelopment project. The much-anticipated meeting, which had drawn attention from city leaders, KCCA officials, and stakeholders, collapsed abruptly following a directive from Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among. According to COSASE chairperson Hon. Medard Lubega Ssegona, Speaker Among wrote to the committee instructing it to halt any deliberations on the Nakivubo Channel project. The Speaker explained that the matter has already been placed under the jurisdiction of a select committee of Parliament’s Physical Infrastructure Committee. “We have received clear communication from the Office of the Speaker. This matter is now under the Physical Infrastructure Committee, chaired by Hon. Dan Kimosho, with a five-member panel handling investigations. As COSASE, we cannot continue with this engagement,” Ssegona announced before adjourning the session.  The directive effectively ended Lord Mayor Lukwago’s bid to challenge the ongoing redevelopment of Nakivubo Channel, which he has strongly opposed on grounds of legality, transparency, and potential environmental risks. Lukwago had hoped to use the COSASE platform to press his case against the project, accusing certain officials of pushing the development without following due process. The Nakivubo Channel, Kampala’s main drainage artery, is undergoing a major facelift as part of government’s efforts to curb flooding in the city and improve urban infrastructure. However, the project has faced sharp criticism from Lukwago and some city activists, who argue that the works are being done at the expense of accountability and proper environmental safeguards.Observers say the Speaker’s directive marks a turning point in the debate, shifting the spotlight away from COSASE and onto the Physical Infrastructure Committee, which will now lead investigations and provide recommendations to Parliament. The Lord Mayor, visibly frustrated, accused Parliament of silencing legitimate concerns over a project that directly affects Kampala residents.The redevelopment of Nakivubo Channel remains one of the most contentious infrastructure projects in Kampala, with sharp divisions between government authorities and city leaders over its management and long-term impact.

Explosion at Buziga Country Resort Sauna Leaves Three Women Seriously Injured

 Kampala, Uganda | August 25, 2025 – A devastating explosion ripped through the sauna at Buziga Country Resort in Upper Buziga Zone, Makindye Division, on Sunday evening, leaving three women with serious injuries. The incident occurred at around 8:30 pm on August 24, 2025, shocking guests and staff at the popular resort. The victims have been identified as: Hajjat Masitula, 69, Vice Chairperson LC I of Katuso Cell, who suffered severe burns on her back, chest, and lower body.Zahara Nakawesi Kasenene, 39, who sustained burns and a broken left leg.Mamaram Aisha, who suffered multiple severe burns across her body.  The three were rushed to Kiruddu Hospital for emergency treatment. Two were later referred to Nsambya Hospital and Mulago National Referral Hospital for specialized medical care.  Police Launch Investigation  Police at Kabalagala Division immediately responded to the scene, documenting and securing the area. A scene of crime officer collected evidence, while initial findings revealed the blast inside the sauna was significant in nature. However, the exact cause is still under investigation. Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Luke Oweyesigyire, confirmed that statements have been recorded from witnesses and victims. No arrests have been made so far. “We assure the public that inquiries are ongoing, and updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” Oweyesigyire said.“We continue to work closely with medical facilities to monitor the condition of the victims and extend our support to their families.” The police suspect the incident could be a case of rash and neglect, but a thorough forensic examination of the site has been launched to establish the exact cause of the explosion.

Minister Muyingo Urges Parents to Educate and Instill Religious Values in Children

 Bamunanika, Luweero District – The Minister of State for Higher Education, Hon. Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo, has called on parents to prioritize educating their children while also raising them with strong religious values. Dr. Muyingo made the remarks today at the home of the parents of Rev. Fr. Bruno Serunkuuma, who was recently consecrated. The event was held in Bamunanika, Luweero District, and attracted several religious leaders, parents, and Christians. In his message, the Minister congratulated Rev. Fr. Serunkuuma upon his milestone and encouraged parents to raise God-fearing children, while ensuring they receive both formal education and cultural grounding. “As parents, it is our duty to educate our children and to raise them with discipline, cultural values, and fear of God. We should also guide them during this holiday to stay safe, learn our language, and grow up responsible,” Dr. Muyingo said. He further appealed for unity and tolerance as the country heads toward the 2026 General Elections, urging Ugandans to practice mature politics based on mutual respect, even among those with differing views.  Religious Leaders Praise Muyingo’s Support  The thanksgiving mass was led by Rev. Fr. Mathius Jooga, head of Our Lady of Grace, Nandere TC, who encouraged Catholics to always put their hope in Jesus Christ during life’s challenges. He also thanked Dr. Muyingo for supporting Rev. Fr. Serunkuuma through his priestly formation. Rev. Fr. Gerald Wamala, the leader of Mulajje Parish, applauded the Minister for consistently supporting the Catholic Church in nurturing and educating priests. Meanwhile, the Vicar General of Kasana-Luweero Diocese, Msgr. Vincent De Paul Mukiibi, urged parents to take full responsibility in guiding their children at an early age, noting that well-nurtured children grow into responsible citizens. He equally commended Dr. Muyingo for his unwavering commitment to the education of Catholic priests.  Gift to Support Pastoral Work  As part of his support, Dr. Muyingo donated UGX 6 million to Rev. Fr. Serunkuuma to help him acquire a motorcycle for transport as he begins his priestly mission. The event not only highlighted the importance of parental responsibility in shaping future generations but also reflected the strong partnership between the Church and the government in promoting education and moral values in society.

UCC Bars Media from Operating Tally Centers in 2026 Elections

 The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has directed media houses not to establish or operate tally centers during the 2026 general elections, warning that only results released by the Electoral Commission (EC) will be recognized and broadcast. UCC Executive Director, Nyombi Thembo, issued the directive on Friday while meeting media executives in Kampala. He emphasized that any media outlet found violating the order would face the harshest penalties, including the suspension or withdrawal of broadcasting licenses. “The Commission will not tolerate parallel tally centers. Only results officially declared by the Electoral Commission should be relayed to the public,” Nyombi Thembo stated. The directive comes as part of UCC’s efforts to ensure accuracy, curb misinformation, and maintain order in the dissemination of electoral results. As Uganda heads toward the 2026 polls, the move has already sparked debate among stakeholders, with concerns over press freedom weighed against the need for credible and verified election reporting.

President Museveni Hosts Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan at State House

 Entebbe, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni welcomed His Excellency Goodluck Jonathan, the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, at State House, Entebbe. H.E. Jonathan is in Uganda to officiate at the 14th Graduation Ceremony of Cavendish University Uganda, where he serves as Chancellor. During the meeting, President Museveni and the former Nigerian leader held cordial discussions covering a wide range of issues of mutual interest to both Uganda and Nigeria. President Museveni commended H.E. UCC Requests Gen. Muhoozi to Take Journalists to Kyankwanzi

 Kampala, Uganda – [Insert Date] – The Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), Nyombi Thembo, has appealed to the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen.   Tokyo, Japan – August 2025 – During the 2025 Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), Rev. Ock Soo Park, founder of the International Youth Fellowship (IYF), held a special meeting with Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé of Côte d’Ivoire.  The meeting marked a warm reunion between the two leaders, as Prime Minister Mambé had previously participated in the IYF World Camp in Korea during his tenure as Governor of Abidjan. Hon. Dr. JC Muyingo Flags Off 67th Cohort of Ugandan Scholarship Awardees for 2025/2026

 Kampala, Uganda – The Minister of Education and Sports (Higher), Hon. Dr. JC Muyingo, presided over the Pre-Departure Briefing and Flag-Off Ceremony for Uganda’s 67th Scholarship Awardees at the Makerere University Senate Building. The ceremony, held ahead of the 2025/2026 academic year, celebrated the departure of 76 Ugandan students set to pursue higher education abroad under various scholarship programs.  Speaking as Chief Guest, Dr. Muyingo commended the students for their achievement and urged them to serve as Uganda’s ambassadors while abroad. In his moving speech, he emphasized the importance of academic excellence, discipline, and patriotism, reminding the scholars to return and contribute to Uganda’s social and economic development.“You carry the flag of Uganda with you.
